Library news

by Ms Emily Collins, BHHS Librarian

Here in the Library we have seen the end of Semester One with students cramming for exams, binding maths resources and grabbing dictionaries.  Our younger students have been playing board games, reading a pile of new manga, running the gauntlet of daily puzzles and trying out the student-made computer games from Year 10 AI driven software development class.

Library Loyalty Card Winners

We love encouraging borrowing of our fantastic collection and want to encourage our students who are building strong reading habits. When students borrow, they can pick up a library loyalty card and get it stamped, if they borrow six books then their card goes into a draw. Students win a new book to take home.

This terms winners were Hiley W, Colin T, Mia F and Ari H.

We have a new database!

We want to prepare our students by giving them the most up to date information for their assignments today and for further study when they leave BHHS. We have subscribed to the Informit Explore database that has been created by RMIT. It has Australasian-focused content with a digital library of thousands of journals, magazines and videos.

It also has a comprehensive streaming archive of Australian television news and current affairs videos that can be searched by the topics covered. All students can access the Informit database via Compass> Star menu> Library – Informit database

The library celebrates IDAHOBIT Day!

A huge rainbow could be seen over the library recently, just in time for IDAHOBIT Day, inside students could find books, stories and resources celebrating the lives of LGBTQIA+ people. Rainbow snakes were on the menu (see banner image for this article) but the snakes had stiff competition from the rainbow fairy bread that the Wellbeing Team was offering in the hallway outside.
