Meet our Junior School Captains

By Mr Nic Barca, Head of Junior School

Earlier this term, a new student leadership opportunity was launched for our Year 7 and 8 students, the role of Junior School Captain. These students were selected to represent their peers, oversee the Year 7 and 8 Class Captains, and play an active role in shaping the Junior School experience.

As part of their role, the Junior School Captains meet fortnightly with Mr Barca to provide feedback, plan initiatives, and strengthen student voice across the sub-school.

To help you get to know our captains, they've each completed a short profile. Read on to learn more about the students proudly representing our Junior School this year.

Junior School Captain – Year 7 (Azaan)

  • 3 words that best describe you.

Intelligent, Responsible & Sporty

  • Favourite subject at BHHS and why?

I don’t necessarily have a favourite subject, but I particularly enjoy science as there is lot to explore and learn as well as the fact that practicals are a fun hands-on activity and way to learn.

  • What does student leadership mean to you?

Student leadership means to be a role model and be a voice for those around you. It means to lead by example and always be doing the right thing and to encourage others to do the same. It is to help others when they need it and to display all of the school values of respect, resilience, creativity and growth.

  • What would you like to do in the role?

I would like to make a difference for the better by helping to establish an environment where everyone can feel safe and included and comfortable to learn play and socialise. I am looking forward to working with teachers, students and principals alike to help improve the school.

Junior School Captain – Year 8 (Kirri)

  • 3 words that best describe you.

Outgoing,  Kind,  Brave

  • Favourite subject at BHHS and why?

My favourite subject at BHHS is drama, I have always had a massive passion for performing and I love being able to step on stage, forget everything and be whoever I want to be.

  • What does student leadership mean to you?

Student leadership means a lot to me because I feel that it is very important for students to feel like they are heard and to have a say in what happens in the school, and I feel so grateful to be able to help be the voice of my year level.

  • What would you like to do in this role?

I would like to set up a question box or an idea box for students to anonymously speak their opinions and to be able to have a say on what goes on, I just really want to help unite the junior school year levels and bring people closer together and give everyone an equal say and an equal voice.
