Year 7 students were invited to create an object which played an important role in the novel they studied in Term 2 called ‘City of Ember’. They had to use the information about the object from the book, in addition to their own creativity, to design this artifact. There were many spectacular submissions, but first place was awarded to Ella Mae D and Olivia T of 7Z.
This competition took place on Sunday 1 June at Mount Scopus Memorial College. Careena W (Year 7) participated in the junior division, and Minnie C (Year 11) participated in the senior division.
The Plain English Speaking Award took place on Wednesday 21 May at Fintona Girls’ School. Minnie C and Shaunak C from Year 11 represented our school at this event.
Minnie’s speech explored the way that success can look different to different people, and Shaunak spoke about the way women are being disadvantaged in our world.
The Term 2 GAPP Parent Seminar took place on Tuesday 3 June in SATERN.
Dr Sheedy delivered a presentation on the topic ‘Raising a Gifted Child’, and then parents asked questions of an expert panel which included Mrs Kathy Harrison, President of the Victorian Association for Gifted and Talented Children, Dr Sheedy and Year 10 GAPP students: Han Y, Campbell McM and Sym C.
English Masterclass 4 took place on Thursday 5 June, and it was led by Mr Wilkins (see banner image for this article). The session explored the idea of ‘Simulacra and Truth in a Post-Truth World’. Students were encouraged to think about what happens when illusions feel more real than reality, and to consider how contemporary media blurs truth through construction, representation and simulacra.
