In a thrilling day of school footy, Box Hill High School’s intermediate boys team delivered a spirited and high-quality performance, securing second place in the round robin competition against Blackburn High School and Koonung Secondary College. With two convincing wins and just one hard-fought loss, the BHHS boys showed skill, heart and sportsmanship in equal measure.
The day began on a high as Box Hill clashed with Blackburn High School’s second team. From the first bounce, BHHS stamped their authority on the contest, dominating the midfield and transitioning smoothly into attack. Led by standout performances from Joel S and Will G, the boys stormed to a commanding 7.4.46 to 2.2.14 victory. The forward line was clinical and the defensive pressure never let up, laying the foundation for a confident start to the day.
Game two saw Box Hill face the powerhouse Blackburn 1 team in what was arguably the match of the day. In a fiercely contested battle, both teams traded blows in a high-intensity contest. Despite a valiant effort from BHHS, driven by relentless running from Cash T and hard-nosed pressure from Joel R, Blackburn 1 proved too strong. While the final score didn’t go Box Hill’s way, the effort and cohesion shown by the team kept them firmly in the hunt for top honours.
The boys rebounded in style in their final match against Koonung Secondary College, unleashing some of their best footy of the day. With Angus D patrolling the backline and Felix C creating plenty of drive through the midfield, BHHS piled on scoreboard pressure early and maintained control throughout. The final score of 8.5.53 to 3.2.20 reflected a dominant display, capping off a strong campaign.
Throughout the day, several players stood tall. Joel S was electric with ball in hand, while Cash T’s endurance and composure under pressure were crucial. Will G provided consistent drive, Joel R brought the grit, and both Angus D and Felix C showcased leadership and class. Riley M also delivered a standout performance, contributing strongly across the ground and proving to be a reliable target in the forward line—hitting the scoreboard a handful of times in each match and consistently applying pressure inside 50. Honourable mentions must also go to a promising group of Year 9 players, Alex H, Xavier B and Jude B, who stepped up impressively and handled the pressure of intermediate level competition with maturity.
Ultimately, it was Blackburn High School who walked away with the title, but Box Hill High can hold their heads high after a superb showing. The team’s camaraderie, resilience and sportsmanship were on full display, and they represented their school with pride and distinction.
Well played, boys—you’ve done BHHS proud.

From the Student Coaches:
"I had the privilege of coaching the A team and it was very enjoyable to see the girls come together as teammates and friends to play really good games of netball that brought them to the victory, meaning they are onto the next stage of interschool sports, as well as overall looking like they were all having a fun time and enjoying themselves which is the main part!" ~ Jessie M, Year 9 Assistant Coach
"I coached the Box Hill High School Bs for interschool netball on Wednesday at The Rings. They won every game by a large margin, leaving many teams in the dust. Their teamwork was very good and even though some of them don’t play much netball, they did an incredible job. They were fun to coach and worked hard to improve their game from start to finish." ~ Chloe G, Year 9 Assistant Coach
"The Year 7 girls netball C team showed amazing teamwork and sportsmanship while playing their games. They worked well giving each other support and tips on court, creating a fun game and that's what it’s all about! I am very proud of the girls and their effort, managing to win 2 games!" ~ Celeste J & Isabella P, Year 9 Assistant Coaches
Congratulations to our Year 7 boys netball teams for their fantastic effort and commitment, with both A and B teams winning 4 out of 5 games! While we didn’t make it to the next round, it’s important to recognise how far these teams have come. The boys were committed, coachable, and resilient with many of the players new to the game. Their growth in skill, teamwork, and confidence has been remarkable, and they should be extremely proud of what they’ve achieved.
Throughout the competition, both teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship, supporting one another and showing respect to other schools and referees. Their attitude, effort, and positivity on and off the court truly represented our school values. You gave it your absolute best, well done Year 7 boys!
On Thursday 15 May, the Whitehorse Division Year 8 Boys AFL tournament took place at Koonung Reserve, where our BHHS boys took on teams from Blackburn HS, East Doncaster SC & Koonung SC under glorious blue skies and sunshine.
They may have only had 16/18 on the field in each game, but the boys from BHHS played with plenty of enthusiasm and courage, to come away from the three games with a one-point win against East Doncaster and two respectable losses against Koonung & Blackburn.
Ari K was our captain for the day and led from the front with his grunt work and excellent ability to find the footy, hitting the scoreboard on multiple occasions in each game. Ari was supported well by some of our 'silky smooth-movers' on-field, including Kingston U, Sam T and Tommy T, with their gut-running and exceptional ball-use on display all day, and Ayrton N, who contributed with a couple of telling goals in their first ever time playing AFL.
A big thanks from Mr Howlett & Mr Carr goes to Year 10 student coaches Lucas O and Joel R, who gave the boys plenty of encouragement and helpful feedback throughout the day.
Our Box Hill HS senior girls tennis team performed well at state finals. All our players are used to playing tennis together for Box Hill HS and they were competitive in all games played.
They went through to the semi-finals comfortably and played attacking tennis against Rowville sports academy. Fair and sporting throughout all their games, Box Hill did not pass into the final round but they gave every school they played challenging tennis.
Well done team on a fantastic showing at the state level.
The team included: Akshara K, Pakhi K, Angela A, Clarisa S, Ruchi S, Jen H.
On 20 May, the Girls A team beat all schools except East Doncaster, where it was close and down to points. We lost 110 to 103, roughly. The Boys A team beat Koonung and Blackburn and lost to East Doncaster as well.
Stand outs included Adrian K and Elly W.
Boys A: two draws and a loss
Girls A : a draw, 2 losses
Boys B : won their only game 4-0 (extended game).
Schools involved: Box Hill High School, Blackburn High School, East Doncaster Secondary College, Koonung Secondary College.
The Senior Interschool Soccer Sports Day on 26 May was a thrilling celebration of talent, teamwork, and school pride. Hosted at Ballyshannassy Park in Burwood East, four powerhouse schools from the Eastern Region came together for a day packed with action and excitement. The girls dazzled with a commanding performance, while the boys’ long-standing reign came to a dramatic and heartfelt close.
Senior Boys Soccer
After years of dominating the interschool soccer scene, our senior boys faced a tough challenge and, despite their best efforts, couldn’t notch a win. For our dedicated Year 12 players, it was their final dance on the field wearing the BHHS jersey — and they did so with heart, pride, and sportsmanship.
Standout Players - Ara, Ali, Pat, Joel, and Remy were standouts, showcasing incredible skill, leadership, and grit. They gave it their all in both attack and defence, embodying what it means to represent BHHS.
Senior Girls Soccer
The senior girls came out firing in their only game of the day, steamrolling their opponents in an electrifying 7-1 victory. Their performance was a masterclass in teamwork, creativity up front, and rock-solid defending.
Standout Players - Roxy, Nicole, Scarlett, and Olivia lit up the field with flair, hustle, and sharp communication. Their energy and synergy were key to the team’s dominant win.
From the first whistle to the final cheer, the vibe at Ballyshannassy Park was electric. All schools brought not only their A-game but also top-tier sportsmanship. Whether on or off the field, students cheered each other on and celebrated every goal, save, and play with respect and spirit.
A huge thank you to the incredible coaches, referees, and volunteers who made the day run smoothly. Special thanks to the Ballyshannassy Park team for hosting us with excellent facilities and support.
The Senior Soccer Interschool Sports Day was a day to remember. While the boys' winning streak came to a close, their commitment and leadership—especially from our Year 12s—left a lasting mark. They walked off the pitch with heads high, having given their all for BHHS.
The girls’ thrilling win was the cherry on top, reflecting their hard work, talent, and team-first attitude. For many senior players, this was their final match—and they made it one to remember. More than just a competition, the day was a celebration of resilience and unity.
We had a great day out on 19 May, with a good combination of Year 11s and 12s mixed through each team. We had one Girls team (many of whom did not play basketball outside of school), who worked really well together and were full of positivity. Though they didn't manage to win, they had a lot of fun. Our two Boys teams both managed to win some games. Our Boys A team were very competitive, winning 3 out of 6 games and only narrowly losing the remaining 3. It was wonderful to see these students represent the school with pride and respect throughout the day. Well done everyone!
"The Box Hill boys ventured out to the Maroondah Rings to compete in a netball tournament against Blackburn, East Doncaster and Koonung. Their teamwork and passion for the sport made this experience great. Despite losing to East Doncaster and coming second in the draw, they still showed 100% effort and respect. They demonstrated care, enjoyment and leadership, making sure everyone was happy and comfortable with their positions. The B team ended up winning, losing and drawing their matches, striving to do their best every game. We are very proud of what our boys have achieved and we hope to be back again next year!" ~ Akshara, Hannah, Dean and Flynn
Report by Student Coaches Maya R, Tessa G and Lucia M
On Monday 2 June, the Year 8 Box Hill High School Girls Netball teams made their way to the Maroondah Rings in Ringwood, to compete against rivals Blackburn, East Doncaster and Koonung.
The Girls A team were successful in advancing to the next round going three from three, winning convincingly each game. There teamwork and passion will continue to shine through into the following stages of the tournament.
Congratulations to the girls who played on the day: Laila B, Aimee L, Abbey M, Claire M, Eden N, Georgia P, Audrey W & Georgia W.
The Girls B team put in a huge effort to win against EDSC and Koonung. A major highlight was the fun positions in our last game that enabled the girls to have fun, play well and enhance their teamwork and communication skills (Keisha B, Abby C, Seyun C, Grace H, Rebecca H, Tenisha K, Macy R, Ruchitha P, Emma R).
The Girls C team had a long fight playing against the Blackburn and EDSC B teams, losing by just a bit. They defeated Koonung with a massive effort. They worked extremely well together, were very open-minded to new skills and having lots of fun (Alicia E, Mikayla K, Abbey L, Jiwoo L, Niva P, Anwita R, Evelyn S, Clara Z).
The most memorable moments were the smiles and chats shared between the coaches and players, filled with encouragement and laughter.
The boys travelled to Koonung Reserve for Year 7 Boys AFL, hopeful of progressing through to regionals. In the first match against Koonung, the boys got off to a strong start, kicking the first 2 goals before Koonung kicked into gear. After trailing by 8 points at half time, the boys got to work kicking the first 4 goals of the second half. Eventually we ran away as 16 point winners.
The second game against Blackburn seemed like an impossible task from the beginning with Blackburn kicking goals at will to lead by 55 points at half time. The team applied more pressure in the second half and eventually scored 2 points but were no match for Blackburn. Second place is still a great effort. Best players were Matt C and Ethan R. Well done to Finn B and Jude B who coached the team well all day.
Mieke and Gabby coached the Year 9-10 BHHS A team. They remained undefeated throughout the day! We loved watching the girls improve and have fun throughout every game - they continue to impress us. Every game was won with over 10 points and we’re so excited to see how they go in regionals!! MVP awarding was a very tough decision, as all the girls were invaluable to the team, but the MVP were Maddie F and Chloe G! Congrats girls 👏👏👏
Girls B and C teams also performed very well. Girls B won two and lost one, whilst Girls C team won the C competition in a thrilling 10-9 victory over Blackburn.
On 19 June, thirty-six students represented our school at the 2025 Year 8 Interschool Badminton Regional Competitions held at Mitcham Badminton Stadium. Throughout the day, our players displayed impressive resilience, perseverance, and teamwork in every match.
Although we did not advance to the state-level competitions, the experience of competing against top players from other schools was both valuable and rewarding. We are proud of our students’ efforts and grateful for the opportunity to take part in this exciting event.
