Course selection & reports

The process for students selecting their pathways and subjects for 2026 will begin at the end of Term 2. This is an exciting opportunity for students to make decisions about their studies next year.
Students from Year 8 onwards have elective subjects, with students being able to increasingly focus their studies on their areas of strength and interest as they progress into the senior year levels. The key resources that will support students with the course selection process are:
Year level assemblies, where the subject selection process is explained
Subject selection handbooks, which explain the course selection process, the course options, and the supports available to students
Course selection expos, where students can speak first-hand with the teachers and current students of different subjects
Course advising sessions for Year 9 to Year 11 students.

Semester 2 reports will be released at the end of term. Here are some tips for parents for how to make the best use of the reports.
Choose the right time and setting to speak with your student about their report. Finding a calm, distraction-free setting will set you up for success. Friday afternoons might not be the best time as everyone can be tired.
Start with open-ended questions and be curious, not critical. This could include questions like “How do you feel about your results?”, “What do you think helped you do well in this subject?”, “Was there anything that surprised you in your report?”, or “What made this subject more challenging?” This can help to build students’ agency in their own learning and ensure that you don’t leap to judgement.
Focus on the whole picture – look at effort, growth and achievement. Learner behaviours on the report provide valuable feedback on students’ mindset and effort.
Make a plan together for next steps or keep the door open by letting students know your available and in their corner.
If needed, contact teachers who may be able to provide more information or guidance about what support is required.
