MasterChef challenge heats up at BHHS

by the VCE Vocational Major team

Our Year 11 and 12 students recently swapped textbooks for chopping boards in an exciting MasterChef Challenge that brought together skills from across the curriculum – and it was a feast for the senses!

This cross-curricular activity had students diving into budgeting, researching recipes, collaborating in teams, and of course, shopping and cooking (and cleaning!) to a high standard – all under time pressure. The challenge was designed to test more than just culinary talent; it encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, and attention to detail.

With aprons on and ingredients prepped, the kitchen was buzzing with energy as students worked together to create a delicious three-course menu. The dishes were judged on presentation, taste, teamwork, and how well they stayed within budget – and the results were mouth-watering!

The Year 11 winning team wowed the judges with a menu that showed great variety, flavour and flair:

  • Beef Rice Paper Rolls – fresh, colourful, and full of flavour

  • Lemon Chicken with Fried Rice and Cucumber Salad – a well-balanced and tasty main

  • Lemon Pie and Coconut Rice Pudding – a sweet and satisfying dessert duo!

A huge congratulations to all the students who took part – your effort, enthusiasm and culinary creativity were inspiring. And of course, a big thank you to our judges who had the tough job of tasting everything (someone had to do it!).

We look forward to the next delicious round of cross-curricular learning at BHHS!
