Year 7 & 8 boys travelled to Leongatha on Thursday to take part in the interschool AFL competition. Both sides started the day well with a win each. The undermanned year 8’s were unable to get another win but fought hard all day with other schools providing fill in players.

YEAR 7 MIXED AFL TEAM

On Thursday, 15/5, our Intermediate Year 9/10 Boys Football team travelled to Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve to compete in the interschool competition. Leading the team for the day were our co-captains, Jayden Douglas and Johnny Wilson, who both set a fantastic example with their leadership on and off the field.

In our first match, we came up against a strong Bass Coast College – Wonthaggi Campus side, made up entirely of Year 10 students. Despite the size and experience difference, our boys showed great resilience and determination, working hard to compete until the final siren.

Our second game saw a much closer contest against Bass Coast College – Dudley Campus. It was a tightly fought battle from start to finish, with both teams trading goals throughout the game. The boys gave it everything, narrowly going down by a late goal in the second half.

A big well done to all the players for their effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship across the day.

NETBALL

SOUTH GIPPSLAND DIVISION NETBALL

On Monday the 20th of May, our Year 7, 8, Intermediate and Senior girls' netball teams travelled to the sunny Leongatha netball courts. Our intermediate team took to the courts first, going down to Foster S.C in their only loss for the day. Our Year 8's were second on court unfortunately going down to Bass Coast S.C- Dudley campus and then  Bass Coast S.C- San Remo campus. Our Senior girls had their only win of the day in their opening match against Leongatha S.C, and our Year 7's won both their round robin games to progress to the grand final against Mary Mackillop CRC, where unfortunately the team did not progress to the next round of competition.

Our students played with the intention of sharing the playing time for the day, putting fun over winning. Though the teams did not progress, the staff on the day were really impressed with the students, behaviour and attitude throughout the day. Thank you everyone for representing the college in a positive light.

BASKETBALL

SENIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL

Senior Girls Basketball took to the court on Monday 28th July.

In true Burra fashion, our team was all smiles throughout the day as they played against Bass Coast SC and Leongatha SC.

The first match saw our players work together and demonstrate positive sportsmanship and although they didn’t come away with the win, they celebrated every goal scored!

The second match saw the girls achieve more points on the scoreboard and despite Leongatha winning the match, the enjoyment had by all the students on the court was incredible to watch, especially given that this was the last Interschool Sports day for many of these competitors.

Well done on a great day out!! Positive vibes all the way!!

The girls showed strong spirit and teamwork, narrowly losing to Mary MacKillop in a close first game, followed by a tough match against a well-drilled Bass Coast side.

The boys had a strong start with a win over Mary MacKillop, but couldn’t overcome Bass Coast Dudley and San Remo in later matches despite solid team efforts.

A big thank you to Dallas Walker, Leah Kirkbride, Ainsley Logan, Ms Lloyd, and Ms Wilson for their coaching and support, and to the parents who came to cheer on the teams.

SOCCER

YEAR 7 SOCCER

The Year 7 Girls and Boys Soccer Team braved some wintry weather on Friday 6th June to compete in the interschool competition. The students demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship, playing competitive and fair football for each of their three games. The best result of the day was the girls who managed a 0-0 draw, however the lack of wins didn't diminish the students enthusiasm. Well done to the students who had never played, who embraced a new challenge, and to the more experienced players who lead each side with kindness, passion and grit.

INTERSCHOOL SOCCER

On Friday 13th June, our KSC Soccer team took to the field at Mary Mac with only 10 players, facing full squads and tough competition.

Despite the challenge, the team played with heart, supporting one another and showing great determination. A 3-0 loss to Foster kicked off the day, with strong defence and a confident effort from linesperson Grace. After a forfeit win against Bass Coast Wonthaggi, the team faced Mary MacKillop, holding their own despite injuries and no subs. Talon made key saves, while strong efforts from Linc, Lockie, Ryder, Beau, Brock, Jett, and Mitchell kept the pressure on.

The team showed true sportsmanship and resilience. Well done to all players – and thank you to Mr Santilli and Ms Kennedy for their support on the day!
