KSC ART – A YEAR OF CREATIVITY, COLOUR & BIG IDEAS

Our Art students have had an incredible year exploring new styles, bold techniques, and the power of visual storytelling.

Year 9 Art: From the Streets to the Surreal

Year 9 students embraced a dynamic range of contemporary artmaking this year. They kicked things off with graffiti and street-art inspired design, experimenting with bold lettering, colour, and two-point perspective to create vibrant urban cityscapes. Their investigations into the work of artists like Banksy and Adnate inspired powerful spray-paint pieces exploring themes from identity to climate change. They also celebrated culture and symbolism through Day of the Dead calavera masks, weaving personal meaning into every colour and motif.

Linking to the world of optical illusions, students also stepped into M.C. Escher’s mind-bending universe—tessellations, impossible objects, and intricate shading pushed their technical skills to new heights.

In Contemporary Art, students explored the playful world of Yayoi Kusama, creating a collaborative ‘self-obliteration’ corner and their own dot-covered sculptures.

Year 8 Art – Creativity in full colour

Our Year 8 students have had an exciting and imaginative year in the Art studio! They began by mastering 3D perspective drawing, building confidence as they brought depth and dimension to their work. Next, they let their creativity run wild while sculpting hybrid animal creations using air-dry clay—each piece as quirky and original as its maker.

Students also explored mixed media surrealism, combining unexpected imagery to craft expressive and thought-provoking collages. To finish the year, they turned their artistic eye to patterned portraiture, experimenting with colour, shape and texture to design portraits bursting with personality.

It’s been a wonderful year of exploration, skill-building and imaginative artistry. Well done, Year 8!

Year 7 Art: Foundations & Imagination

Our Year 7 artists spent the year building strong foundations, exploring the elements and principles of art through vibrant, thoughtful works showcasing line, colour, texture, balance, and their growing confidence as creators.

They also brought the natural world to life through animal and ecosystem sculptures, using sustainable materials to craft character-filled creatures from rainforests, deserts, oceans and beyond. These whimsical sculptures highlight both creativity and a deepening understanding of the environment.

Year 11 & 12 Art: Seeing Art in the Real World

Senior Art students enriched their classroom learning with an inspiring trip to the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery and McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park. They explored conservation and exhibition practices, gaining insight into how artworks are curated, cared for, and shared with the public.
