STEAM 2025
Innovation, Creativity and Hands-On Learning
This year’s STEAM program was full of energy, problem-solving and discovery as students explored technology, engineering, design and creativity in new and exciting ways.
In the Classroom
QR Codes & Digital Media
Students began the year investigating how QR codes store and share information. They created their own codes linked to videos, instructions and digital portfolios, helping turn class projects into interactive experiences.
Sphero Coding & Battlebots
Coding skills grew rapidly as students programmed Sphero robots to navigate challenges and complete tasks. A highlight was the Sphero Battlebots arena, where students engineered armour and attachable “weapons” before sending their robots into friendly competitions that encouraged design thinking and teamwork.
3D Printing
Students developed digital designs using Tinkercad and brought them to life on the 3D printer. Their creations ranged from functional tools to imaginative characters, strengthening spatial reasoning and problem-solving along the way.
Bridges & Structures
Engineering challenges pushed students to design and test strong structures using limited materials. They evaluated why some designs succeeded while others failed, learning that persistence and iteration are key to innovation.
H2GP Hydrogen Racing
A major addition in 2025 was the creation of two H2GP (Hydrogen Grand Prix) racing teams. Each team of five students, supported by helpers, designed and built hydrogen fuel-cell powered race cars as part of the H2GP PRO program.
Teams learned about fuel-cell technology, electronics, mechanical design and energy efficiency while assembling and refining their cars. Their hard work led to a four-hour endurance race, where strategy and reliability were just as important as speed. Students gained real-world engineering experience, teamwork skills, and a deeper understanding of renewable energy.
Gippsland Tech School Excursion
Students had the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom during our visit to Gippsland Tech School. Workshops included:
Robotics and Automation
Virtual Reality Simulations
Making Music
These sessions allowed students to experiment with emerging technologies and apply STEM concepts in new and engaging ways.
Looking Forward
Throughout the year, students developed confidence, creativity, resilience and a strong foundation in STEM and design thinking. From coding robots to building hydrogen race cars, their enthusiasm and problem-solving skills shone through every project.
STEAM continues to inspire our students to think boldly, explore new ideas and embrace the future with curiosity and confidence.
