2024 SPORT AT KSC
Badminton
Korumburra Secondary College's badminton teams had an impressive showing, with the Senior Girls team earning a spot in the upcoming Regional Gippsland competition. Their determination and teamwork were key to their success, and the school was proud of their efforts.
The Senior Boys team displayed fierce competitiveness on the court, showing great respect for their opponents and offering unwavering support to one another throughout the competition.
Meanwhile, the Intermediate Girls demonstrated grace and effort in their matches, even as they faced teams with a slight edge in strength. Their resilience and sportsmanship were a highlight for KSC.
Congratulations to all teams for their fantastic efforts—you’ve done Korumburra SC proud!
Basketball
Year 7
Interschool Year 7
Monday 26th August saw yet another enthusiastic group of students head out on Interschool Sport to the Korumburra Rec. Centre for Year 7 Basketball.
The boys won their first game against Mary Mac and then came up against a strong Leongatha side whom they lost to. We then had a great win against a previously undefeated BCC- Dudley team which meant that we were tied with Dudley at the top of our section. For us to make the Grand Final Mary Mac (who hadn’t yet won a game) had to beat Leongatha. This was great game to watch, with Mary Mac getting their first win for the day, meaning that our boys went through to the Grand Final!
The boys played incredibly as a team but unfortunately couldn’t get the chocolates over BCC- San Remo. Runners Up for the boys. BUT, we had a fantastic, competitive day out, and with lots of numbers in our team, the boys were awesome in showing good sportsmanship and being supportive team mates on and off the court.
The girls team played against Mary Mac, Leongatha and BCC- Dudley, winning all games in their section. They played off in the Grand Final against BCC- San Remo. This was an incredibly exciting game with the girls getting the WIN by 1 point! With only 6 players in the girls’ team, they did an awesome job of keeping the intensity up every game!
Year 8
The Year 8 Boys Basketball team competed at the Gippsland REGIONAL Tournament in Traralgon. Competitive from start to finish, our seven representatives did our College proud. Great effort from Jai Kennedy, Harry Whelen, Brock Warren, Dylan Canavan, Charlie Boulter, Dallas Walker and Tyler Dole.
Intermediate Boys
The Intermediate Boys Basketball team headed to Bass Coast College to play their interschool basketball tournament on 29th Aug. The boys played really well in their first game, displaying skill and determination to draw with Mary Mac. They won their second game against Foster SC, which added fuel to their fire. Although they played a close third game against Bass Coast College - Dudley, unfortunately they didn’t come away with the win. Bass Coast College - Wonthaggi took the win in the fourth game, despite the team’s efforts.
Over the course of the day, the team showed grit and determination, but it wasn’t enough to get them into the final. Well done to all involved for a great day.
Year 8 Boys and Girls Interschool Basketball
The girls had two great wins, and then a loss against Bass Coast College (Dudley Campus), which meant they narrowly missed out on a Grand Final match. The girls did an amazing job playing together as a team and supporting each other!
The boys’ team secured three wins, earning a spot in the Final, and against Foster they achieved a well-deserved victory. The boys were all amazing, showing great sportsmanship, cheering each other on, and bringing home a well-deserved win!
GIPPSLAND REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
Well done to the KSC Year 8 Boys Basketball team who competed at the Gippsland Regional Tournament in Traralgon. Competitive from start to finish, our seven representatives did our College proud.
Clay Target Shooting
Korumburra Secondary College proudly celebrated Zac’s participation in the School’s Clay Target Shooting competitions. Zac, who hones his skills at the Korumburra Gun Club, showcased his precision and dedication during the events.
This year, Zac competed at the Melbourne Clay Target Club in Yering and took part in a challenging Field and Game competition at Phillip Island, further demonstrating his versatility and talent in clay target shooting.
The school congratulates Zac on his achievements and wishes him continued success in his sporting journey. Keep hitting your targets, Zac!
Football
Senior Girls
Fourteen of Korumburra’s Year 10-12 female students took a short bus trip to attend the Female Aussie Rules round robin at Inverloch Rec Reserve. As the defending champions, the girls only had one match to record back to back wins.
Bass Coast Secondary was the challenger. With the match underway, it wasn’t long before Bass Coast scored a point, only to have a quick turn around and our Korumburra girls to score a goal.
Unfortunately that was the only score on the day with Bass Coast kicking another goal and point in the second half to be crowned winners on the day.
An incredible effort from the team to play with fewer players than past years. A great display of positive sportsmanship and courage – well done girls, you did your school community proud.
Year 7 and 8 mixed AFL team
The Year 7/8 mixed AFL team travelled to Leongatha to compete in the South Gippsland SSV (Year 8 ) round robin. Our first game was against Bass Coast College - San Remo. KSC prepared well for the game and it showed coming away with a 13 point win. Our second game was against Foster. A fast start in the first half saw us come away with a big win, with Tyler Dole kicking 5 goals in his first game of Football in over 4 years. Both wins meant we finished on top of pool B and would play Bass Coast - Dudley in the Grand Final. It was a close game at half time with Dudley leading KSC by 9 points. In the second half, the game opened up, as Dudley took control, eventually winning comfortably.
All the players in the KSC team should be proud of their effort on the day. To have eleven Year 7s competing in the Year 8 competition, and to make the grand final, is a great achievement. Well done everyone!
INTERMEDIATE
The KSC Intermediate boys AFL team travelled to Wonthaggi Rec Reserve and took on Bass Coast Dudley and Wonthaggi Campus in two very close games. The boys played with heart and valour but sadly missed out on taking away a win. The boys missed out in the first game by 4 points and by 2 points in the second. Both games saw, huge marks, tough tackles, and amazing spirit by the boys.
Golf
Levi Perkins made it to the State Golf Team in Canberra. Congratulations to Levi, that is an incredible achievement.
NETBALL
SSV BOYS INTERSCHOOL NETBALL
An excitable group of KSC students headed off to showcase their netball skills. There were some wins, and some losses throughout the day. The Junior boys got better and better with each game. The Intermediate team had some great wins and finished the day in 3rd. The Senior boys had some tough games, but were able to rally together as a team and support each other constantly. Credit to the five Year 9 boys who stepped up and played in the Senior team; this was a big ask but you all rose to the challenge.
SSV GIRLS INTERSCHOOL NETBALL
KSC Girls netball teams played out some great matches in warm weather at Leongatha . Our Year 7 girls were the standouts, winning ALL of their games to progress to the regional finals later this year.
Our Year 8 girls demonstrated excellent teamwork and a positive spirit across their three games. They finished with a loss, a win and a draw.
The Intermediate girls looked to be the team to beat with excellent team play and slick passing in their games. Unfortunately, they were beaten by a stronger Bass Coast College side in their final, finishing second for the day.
Our Senior Girls fought gallantly in each of their four games. Despite half the team not having a strong netball background, and some super Year 8’s filling up the side, the Senior Girls played some great team netball and were a formidable and fair opposition over the day.
YEAR 7 SSV REGIONAL NETBALL

Table Tennis
Our Year 7 girls competed in an exciting day of interschool table tennis! Throughout the day they played against five schools from within our area, with a mix of both singles and doubles matches. The girls showed fantastic skill, teamwork, and determination, making us all proud. The girls managed to win a couple of rounds and learnt a lot about the game from the high quality opposition. A great day of competition and fun!
Volleyball
Our Year 8 Volleyball teams served up some incredible competition this year as they competed against other local schools in our South Gippsland division. Digging deep to win their matches - our Year 8 boys came out on top and progress to the next round at Morwell. They displayed incredible teamwork and positive sportsmanship in every game, and through the support of their Sport Education coach, Mr Baker, students displayed controlled in the execution of their skills and their style of play.
With two Year 8 girls teams, the competitors of both teams were set to take it to their opponents in each match they played. Whilst both teams faced a combination of wins and loses, they maintained a focused approach to each point and showed incredible resilience and support of one another. Feedback was key within the team and as matches progressed, it was clear that students were taking that feedback onboard and modifying their approach.
Throughout the day, students were required to support matches by scoring or as a line judge. A huge shoutout to many of our Year 8 boys and girls, who performed this role repeatedly throughout the day.
Regional Volleyball
Congratulations for the Year 8 Boys, Intermediate Girls and the Senior Boys Volleyball teams who made it to Regional Competitions. All players/teams were competitive and represented our College with fantastic sportsmanship and fairness. Thank you to Ms. Kordus, Mr Churchill and Mr Baker for coaching and travelling with our teams. Well done everyone!
Tennis
Year 8 Girls Team
The Year 8 Girls Tennis team represented KSC at an interschool competition.
They won one match, all played really well and continued learning the rules and practicing their skills throughout the day. It was a fantastic effort.
