SGSMP
SOUTH GIPPSLAND SCHOOLS MUSIC PROGRAM
It has been another musical year for the SGSMP. As usual we began our year with the SGSMP try out day so our new year 7 students could learn all about the SGSMP and the instruments we teach. On Thursday the 30th of May Korumburra Secondary College hosted their Midyear Music Concert, this was to celebrate the work our instrumental students and ensembles have completed. Over the Semester students in the SGSMP formed a small, combined day with some students from Leongatha and Mirboo North to perform for this event. Congratulations to all students who attended and performed for this and thank you to family and friends who attended. In week 3 of term 3 the SGSMP ran a Music camp at Phillip Island and along with the other schools in the program we had a combined band of approximately 120 students! The students took part in various ensemble such as; Vocal Group, Guitar Ensemble, Concert Band and the extension Show Band and did some performances in which some of our students (Riley McIntosh and Ryder Humphrey) got solo parts. Our students (and Ms Handley) also participated in the camp activities; highlights were the Giant Swing, Flying Fox and High Ropes Course. On the first night our evening entertainment was at a Trivia Night led by some senior students from Bass Coast College. On the final night students danced the night away at a Disco run by DJ BBONE. Thankyou to Mr Foon for organising a fantastic camp, we look forward to the next one! The Ensembles at KSC were all involved in our ANTR performance this year playing some great Australian songs! To finish the Year our program ran a SGSMP Summer Festival allowing the students a music filled week of performances and a musical end to the year! We look forward to plenty more opportunities next year.
