YEAR 12

YEAR 12 2024

It’s a bit wild to be at the end point of your schooling, isn't it? Feels like just yesterday you all were these tiny Year 7s, and I was just fresh out of university trying to stand on my own two feet as well. We both shared the challenge of trying to figure out where the classrooms were, most likely in the old musky A wing, and we were both just trying to survive our first day at a new school. And now look at you — about to walk out of here as the Class of 2024, ready to take on the world. For some of you I have taught you every year at high school, and been your coordinator for the last three years, so bad luck to you if you didn't like me because you were stuck with me. Some of you will also remember the lengthy detentions and meetings back in Year 10 that we can look back at and laugh at now. Some quick memories that I am fond of include;

• Teaching you Year 7 dance, and it was a laugh seeing some group dance routines showed at valedictory.

• Driving the Senior Boys to Year 7 State table tennis finals at MSAC in the city where unfortunately we got beaten, but what an achievement you guys made it to states.

• Coaching multiple football sides over the years but especially in 2019 with Junior Girls Football and seeing the girls dominate out on the footy ground.

• Year 12 camp was also a massive highlight with some amazing teamwork, persistence and fun had by everyone involved.

• Year 12 Fete was enjoyed by all, everyone put in great effort to have an event with a variety of different stalls and activities.

• Year 12 Movie Night where we were able to get the Year 12 cohort together for an end of year celebration with Pizza and a movie.

• Teaching the Year 12 VCE VM cohort in PDS and WRS, you were fantastic students and a pleasure to teach. 

I do have to say, this group has always had something special. From the get-go, you’ve been kind, supportive, and accepting of everyone around you. You’ve looked out for one another in a way that’s made this group stand out. You’ve been more than just classmates; you’ve been a family.

You’ve navigated the ups and downs of high school together, whether it was stressing over exams, trying to meet deadlines, navigating through Covid or just those random moments of high school life that no one really prepares you for. Through it all, you showed that you’re not just about getting through things—you’re about doing it with heart and purpose. You looked after each other, helped each other, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better group to work with. As you leave Korumburra Secondary College, don’t forget the things that have made you who you are. Take that kindness and understanding with you into the world. Whether you’re heading off to university, starting a job, traveling, or whatever your next step is, know that you're more than ready for it. Keep being the supportive, laid-back, and inclusive Korumburra kids you’ve always been, and you’ll go far. So, here’s to you, Class of 2024. You’ve been an absolute pleasure to work with, and I couldn’t be prouder. I'm going to miss you all so much but it's time to go out there, do your thing, and don’t forget to enjoy the ride.
