LIKE MINDS

Our Like Minds students expanded to two classes this year, and with more students came more energy, more ideas and more conversations!

The students started the year with a day out at Melbourne Zoo to get to know each other, and build some connections. As usual, a highlight was the bus trip. Term 1 also saw the first of four editions of the Burra Flyer completed.

The AI for Good Challenge was again well participated in by all students as they stretched their creative and critical thinking skills to devise practical solutions to real world problems. At the end of Term 2, the students participated in their first Accreditation Day, sharing their learning and understanding of the Enterprise Capabilities with staff, past students and community members.

The H2GP was a new event on the Like Minds calendar this year and provided a fantastic opportunity for the students to extend their teamwork and problem solving skills as they raced their custom built Hydrogen Cars against other teams. All students thoroughly enjoyed the event, and reflected on strategies they could use to improve their preparations in 2025.

Write a Book in a Day is always the pinnacle of the Like Minds year, and with 6 entertaining stories produced, 2024 was no exception. It was great to have past Like Minds students supporting the event.

The year wrapped up with the final Accreditation Day, and a Celebration evening to wish the Year 8 students all the best as they transition out of the program and into Year 9.

All students can be very proud of the enthusiasm, resilience and perseverance they demonstrated this year to complete a range of learning opportunities and create some strong social connections.

Sunsmart

Our KSC Like Minds class developed board games to educate about being SunSmart, and then played these with the Grade 1/2 students at Korumburra Primary School.
