CROSS COUNTRY RUN
KSC CROSS COUNTRY RUN
First off the mark was the 5km competitors – Under 16 and Under 17-20 Males/Mixed. Mr. Mahoney and Mr. McLean helped set the pace in this event, as the students ran a short route along the front of the College before heading up along the back of the school grounds through the bush track, out around the back oval, through the bushland before heading back towards the College. As they ascended along the track behind the gym, it was time for round two, heading back along the back track to the back oval to cover the km’s required for their age group.
The next few waves of the cross country saw the Junior Male/Mixed groups and female groups set off for the slightly shorter 3km course with the support of Mr. Santilli and Mr. Mahoney (who made it back just in time for the juniors).
With the support of the teachers cheering along the different checkpoints along the trail, students navigated the wet (and sometimes slightly muddy terrain), completing the event, before heading off for the end of the day.
With a combination of runners, walkers and in some cases a blend of both, it was fantastic to see students take the opportunity to support their House and engage in some physical activity with their peers in the sunshine.
The overall scores for each House were extremely close this year with only a few points separating first and second. Every effort counted on the day, and it was the combined effort of McDonald that saw them announced House Champions for the Cross Country 2024, only four points clear of Howitt in second, followed by Whitelaw and Strzelecki.
Congratulations also goes to our age group winners for 2024:

INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY
Fresh country air filled the lungs of our Cross Country team on Monday 20th May at Wonthaggi Secondary College. Whilst the rain from the day before made for a more traditional running course, the bright blue skies created a positive mood from the get go.
Our athletes took to the course in their relevant age groups with a number of our runners qualifying for the Regional Cross Country to be held on 6th June at Drouin Golf Course.
REGIONAL QUALIFIERS
REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY
What an inspiring day at the Regional Cross Country in Drouin!
Whilst two of our students - Johnny Wilson (9th) and Abby Kill (7th) ran incredibly well to qualify for the State Championships, the efforts of our other three competitors on the day; Max Fowles (27th) Tarkyn Taylor-Wilton (23rd) and Will Dowel (24th) was equally as impressive, completing the 5km against a fiercely competitive field. Each of our competitors - whilst a little nervous before the race - focused on the task ahead and set themselves a goal. Their sportsmanship and spirit on the day is to be commended as they represented KSC with pride.
