What an incredible start it has been for our Year 7 students at Melba College!
Term 1 has been all about transition, connection and building confidence as students take their first steps into secondary school. It has been wonderful to see how quickly our Year 7 cohort has settled in, forming new friendships, establishing routines and embracing all that Melba has to offer.
A highlight of the term was our Year 7 Camp, where students had the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, challenge themselves and strengthen connections with their peers. It was fantastic to see students supporting one another, showing resilience and building a strong sense of belonging within their house groups.

We also had the pleasure of welcoming families to our Year 7 Showcase Breakfast, which was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate student learning and strengthen connections between home and school. It was fantastic to see so many families in attendance and to showcase the great work happening across the Year 7 cohort.
Back at school, students have been engaging in a wide range of learning experiences across all subject areas. From hands-on experiments in Science, to developing writing skills in English, problem solving in Mathematics and exploring new subjects and electives, students have approached their learning with enthusiasm and curiosity.
As part of our ongoing transition support, I have been running Cookies & Hot Chocolate Catch-Ups with small groups of students. These sessions provide a relaxed and welcoming space for students to check in, share how they are settling in, celebrate successes and talk through any challenges. It has been a wonderful opportunity to connect with students and ensure they feel supported as they continue to navigate their first year of secondary school.
We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 7 students have started their journey at Melba. They have shown resilience, kindness and a willingness to give things a go, setting a strong foundation for the year ahead.
We look forward to continuing to support and celebrate their growth throughout the year.
