Year 9 Outdoor Education

Mr. Brett Mifsud

The Year 9 Outdoor Education class has been busy lately: Our first trip was to the Cathedral Ranges, where students rock scrambled up to Mt Sugarloaf and then traversed along the Razorback. There were various points along the way that required some careful foot placement and some basic rock-climbing skills. Activities like this where students need to overcome challenges can help build up long term resilience and confidence.

Our second trip was our camp to Wilsons Promontory. This camp was an opportunity for the students to plan all their food, sleeping gear and clothing for three days and two nights. At the camp, we had great weather and students walked to beautiful places like Squeaky Beach and Norman Lookout, as well as trying out surfing on the waves at Norman Bay. Some students were also lucky enough to see a seal swimming at Norman point, and there was another seal playing in the waves when we were surfing.

It is hoped that experiences like this encourage students to have a lifelong interest in getting out into our awesome natural environments.
