Term 1 has been a busy and rewarding start to the year at Woodmans Hill Secondary College, with a range of opportunities, events and programs that have brought our school community together.
During Term 1, we have focused on the embedding a common ‘call to attention’ routine in all of our classrooms. Staff are using the common call to attention, when whole class attention is needed. Having a common routine helps create a predictable and safe learning environment.
One of the highlights of the Term was our Open Night, our biggest yet. Last Wednesday, we welcomed over 350 prospective students, families and community members through our doors. The evening showcased the many opportunities available at Woodmans Hill Secondary College and the vibrant learning environment we are proud of. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff and our outstanding student helpers, who represented the College with pride, confidence and professionalism. Our school captains led the evening, welcoming families and talking about their experiences at Woodmans Hill Secondary College.
We were also proud to have 22 students represent Woodmans Hill Secondary College at the Fuel Youth Summit. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with young leaders from across the region, develop their voice, and explore ways to create positive change in their communities.
Our First Nations students were involved in a meaningful experience through the ABC Takeover Program this week, which included a visit to our Yarning Circle. This provided an important opportunity for students to share stories, connect with culture, and have their voices heard.
A number of students have also been participating in the YES! Program through Berry Street, building their skills in emotional regulation, resilience and positive relationships and experiences in our community. It has been wonderful to see students engaging so positively in this program.
In addition, our Boxing Program, run in partnership with the YMCA, has been a great success. Students have been developing their fitness, discipline and confidence, while also having fun in a supportive environment. This program will run again in Term 2.
CAFÉ UPDATE: construction has begun on our café, including the serving window being cut in the shipping container, flooring and cabinetry is following quickly!
Term 1 has been filled with connection, growth and opportunity. We look forward to building on this strong foundation as we head into Term 2.
Have a safe and restful holiday period.
