Hands on Learning Report

This term in Hands on Learning we have been Busy Bees at the Begonia Festival. We spent a day at the Ballarat Botanical gardens preparing the Begonia Festival planter box.

We put two people standing at the back of the box holding hands, painted rocks that made a pathway through the design and the rest of space was filled with flowers such as Begonias. Pertunias, Marigolds and Snap Dragons. It was hard work but in the end the flowers were vivid, and the rocks shimmered in the sun.

The next week we had to remake it back at school for our Open Night. It was more difficult at school because the space was smaller and we had a strict deadline to work to. We were happy with the end result.
We have also been working on making 3 new garden beds to complete our Yarning Circle landscaping. This has proved more difficult than we expected. Not only have the rabbits eaten most of our plants but the ground is as hard as concrete. We have had to problem solve and come up with a few new ideas such as buying a mattock to break through the ground. Hopefully we’ll get some rain to soften the ground and help us along.
We made salad rolls for our excursion to the Begonia Festival event and have had nachos last week in the air fryer. The nachos were great, but we ate a lot of them. We’ve also had fried rice and dim sims on the BBQ and more salad rolls.
I have enjoyed Hands on Learning since day one and I’m looking forward to next term. My highlight has been socialising with the rest of the team. I feel like it has made me more talkative with new people.
