Respectful Behaviours in Our School Community
At Woodmans Hill Secondary College, we are proud of the strong, respectful relationships that underpin our school culture. Recently, School Council formally ratified our updated Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy, reinforcing our shared commitment to a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all.
This policy reflects the Victorian Government’s expectations that schools, students, parents and carers work together to create positive conditions for learning. It recognises that a strong school community is built on shared responsibility — where everyone plays a role in modelling and promoting respectful behaviour.
Importantly, this aligns closely with our core value of Respect.
At Woodmans Hill Secondary College, respect is not just something we expect of our students — it is something we model and uphold across every interaction in our community. Whether it’s in classrooms, at school events, or in conversations between home and school, respectful communication and relationships are essential to creating a sense of belonging for all.
Parents and carers are highly valued members of our school community. The policy acknowledges the important role families play in supporting positive behaviours and building strong partnerships with the school. When schools and families work together, students are better supported to be respectful, safe and engaged learners.
We encourage all parents and carers to take the time to read and understand this policy. It outlines your rights and responsibilities as valued members of our community, and helps ensure we all have a clear, shared understanding of how we work together respectfully.
As part of this, it is important to be clear about behaviours that are not acceptable in any school setting. These include:
Aggressive, threatening or intimidating behaviour
Abusive or inappropriate language (in person, online or via phone/email)
Harassment, discrimination or bullying of any member of the school community
Disrespectful or inappropriate communication towards staff, students or other parents
Posting harmful or defamatory content about the school, staff or students on social media
Any behaviour that disrupts the safe and orderly running of the school
These expectations are in place to protect the wellbeing and safety of everyone in our community, and to ensure that our school remains a place where all feel respected and supported.
We see respectful behaviours every day at Woodmans Hill Secondary College — in the positive interactions, the trust in our relationships, and the shared commitment to doing what is best for our young people.
Thank you for the way you continue to engage with us in a respectful and collaborative manner. Your support makes a significant difference to the strength of our community and the success of our students.
