Year 7 Health – Safety Unit
Year 7 students have recently been exploring our Safety Unit, with a strong focus on Cyber Safety and Cyberbullying.
Throughout this unit, students have developed their understanding of what it means to be safe online. They have explored the different ways cyberbullying can occur, where it can happen, and how online behaviours can impact both themselves and others.
A key focus has been recognising the emotional impact of cyberbullying, with students identifying how online experiences can influence feelings, behaviour and overall wellbeing. Students have also learned to recognise early warning signs that someone may be experiencing cyberbullying and the importance of responding with empathy and respect.
Students have also examined barriers to seeking help, developing an understanding of why some young people may not speak up. They have explored a range of help-seeking strategies, including identifying trusted adults, support services and actions they can take if they feel unsafe online.
In addition, students have been building their knowledge of protective online behaviours, such as keeping personal information safe, managing passwords and responding assertively in challenging situations. These skills have been applied through a range of scenarios to support students in making safe and informed decisions online.
Looking Ahead – Water Safety Program
To complement their learning, Year 7 students will soon participate in a Water Safety Program.
This program focuses on developing students’ ability to recognise risks and respond safely in a variety of aquatic environments, including beaches, rivers and pools. It is not a traditional swimming program, but instead emphasises real-life safety skills and problem solving.
Students will take part in a range of practical activities such as floating and survival techniques, rescue scenarios, understanding safety signage and working collaboratively in team-based challenges.
