Term 1 done and dusted, and my, has it flown by!
Our First Nations students here at Woodmans Hill Secondary College have continued to come together, building strong connections and getting to know one another. We’ve welcomed many new faces across all year levels, and it has been wonderful to see our mob grow and strengthen as a community.
A special mention to Holly, our First Nations Leader, who was formally recognised at the badge ceremony. Holly has embraced this role with pride and respect, showing great leadership and care for all members of the group.
This term has been filled with a range of meaningful and engaging activities. Students enjoyed decorating flat rocks for the Begonia Festival float, showcasing both creativity and culture. We also watched the powerful film Emu Runner, which sparked important conversations around resilience and identity.
This week, we are lucky to have the ABC Takeover team visiting our school to run a writing and storytelling workshop, providing students with a fantastic opportunity to share their voices and stories.
Looking ahead, National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week begin next week. The students and I have worked together to prepare a range of activities for our homegroup teachers to share across the week. These activities aim to deepen understanding of reconciliation, build cultural awareness, and promote unity and working together as one.
It has been a fantastic term, and I’m so proud of the growth, engagement, and pride our students continue to show. Stay tuned for term 2 with more exciting activities and opportunities for our mob.
