VCE Report

Claire Blower

It has been a busy and productive start to the year in the VCE space, and I have been incredibly proud of the way our students have approached their learning so far. Across both Year 11 and Year 12, students have shown a strong commitment to their studies and are beginning to establish the habits that will support their success throughout the year.

One of the most exciting developments this term has been the opening of our new Study Centre. This has already become a fantastic space for students to engage in quiet, independent study, and it has been great to see so many students making the most of this environment to prioritise their learning.

We have also been fortunate to provide a number of valuable learning opportunities for our students. Our Year 12 cohort participated in an Elevate Education – Ace Your Exams seminar, while our Year 11 students engaged in an Elevate Education - Study Senseisession. These sessions help our students to study and prepare for SAC's and Examinations appropriately and give them practical tools they can apply to all of their classes and homework. Additionally, our Accelerated Learning Program students were able to access both sessions, further supporting their academic development.

We were also pleased to welcome Mikala from Branch Out Mentoring, who introduced our Year 12 students to a series of upcoming optional mentoring sessions running in Term 2. These sessions will focus on important life skills beyond school, including topics such as "Adulting', scholarships, finances and housing. Our students are already very excited about these opportunities and the practical support they will provide as they prepare for life after secondary school.

As we move further into the year, scholarship opportunities are beginning to roll out for Year 12 Students. I will continue to share these with students as they become available; however, I strongly encourage all students to be proactive and seek out opportunities themselves. For example, Youthrive Victoria currently offers a University Scholarship of $10,000 per year for three years, as well as the Rural Chances Scholarship for students pursuing pathways such as TAFE. There is also a scholarship opportunity through Youthrive for students who reside in Creswick or Daylesford. See this website for more information: https://www.youthrivevictoria.org.au/scholarships/

We have also been provided with some fantastic free Unit 3 lecture opportunities for Year 12 students, taking place during the Term 2 holidays through ACU. These sessions can be a great way for students to consolidate their understanding and get ahead in their studies. Please visit this website for more information. https://www.acu.edu.au/about-acu/widening-participation/year-12-workshops

A reminder that we now have a Homework Club available to all Year 11 and 12 Students on Monday and Thursday afternoons in the Study Centre 3:20pm - 4:00pm but students can remain behind longer if they ask the supervising teacher or someone in the Senior School Office. It has been great to see students taking advantage of this opportunity as well.

Overall, it has been a really positive start to the year, and I look forward to continuing to support our VCE students as they work towards their goals. Please reach out if you require any further information regarding any of the above information.
