Bulrush Cafe Canteen

We are delighted to share some exciting news with you—our Bulrush Café Canteen will soon be opening! Following extensive preparation, The King’s College, in partnership with Metro Canteens WA, is looking forward to offering a range of fresh and delicious food options for our community throughout the school term, Monday to Friday.
Full Operations – Term 2
From Term 2, the café will operate approximately from 7:30am, offering breakfast, coffee, and a variety of menu options throughout the day.
You can download the Sample Canteen Menu here to preview the offerings. Please note the menu is nut-free, with gluten-free options available. Free Fruit Fridays – a piece of free fruit is available for both staff and students.
How the Café Will Operate
- Pre-orders can be placed online for recess and lunch through the Flexischools app for all students. This is the preferred option to help ensure items are available.
- In-cafe purchases for secondary students only during recess and lunch. (Cash or card only, no mobile payments).
- Parents will be able to access in-cafe purchases for their children during canteen operating hours; however, they must drop off student lunches at the relevant reception area for distribution to students. Parking is available in the usual limestone carpark area.
- Parents and carers are warmly invited to enjoy the café each morning to grab a coffee at drop-off time. Please note that access to the café for parents concludes at 10.00am, allowing the College to transition into its regular daily operations.
How to Place Pre-Orders
To get started, download the Flexischools app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and follow the prompts to create an account. For more detailed instructions, download the Flexischool Ordering Instructions here.
Please note that online orders via the app must be submitted by 9:00am on the day. Orders can be placed in advance from the Friday before the school week.
Collection of orders:
- Primary School orders will be delivered to the primary campus and distributed in class.
- Secondary students will collect their order from the Café servery window.
Student Safety
Student safety is a key priority:
- Additional staff supervision will be provided at recess and lunchtime.
- A safety fence will be installed to separate the café area from carpark traffic.
- All Metro Canteens staff hold valid WWCC, Police Clearances, and food safety certification.
Year 12 Student Special Access
Year 12 students will have the privilege of using the café seating area at recess and lunchtime as an additional common room space. Students are expected to uphold the College’s behavioural expectations and model positive conduct. This privilege will be reviewed and may be withdrawn if expectations are not met. No students are allowed to have mobile phones as per the usual policy.
Creating a Welcoming Café Environment
To ensure the Bulrush Café is a positive space for all, we ask parents and students to support and model the following expectations:
- Treat canteen staff with courtesy and respect
- Be patient and orderly, particularly during busy times
- Help maintain a calm atmosphere by being mindful of noise levels
- Keep the area clean and tidy
- As the café operates within the College environment, all College policies and codes of conduct apply.
We are truly excited about this wonderful new addition to College life. The Bulrush Café Canteen will provide a welcoming space for connection, refreshment and community, and we look forward to seeing it become a vibrant part of our daily rhythm.
