Introducing our Sensory Room: The “Zen Den”

Located near the library at our Molesworth Street campus, The Zen Den has been custom designed under the guidance of Ability Space. The Zen Den features a variety of stimuli, adjustable lighting options, and interactive activities whilst providing a quiet space for our students.

The Zen Den is available for individual students rostered at designated times. Consultation with relevant allied health will occur to ensure the space meets an individual students’ sensory needs; with specific goals documented within each child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). We foresee this space accommodating therapy for individuals and small groups.

You can find the Use of the Sensory Room Statement on our website. We are looking forward to opening this space up to our students in the very near future.

If your child engages with an Allied Health professional and they would like to use the room for therapy, please take the following steps:

  • Notify Zoe via email (zoe.bourdon@education.vic.gov.au) of the student you wish to support in this room, including their name and class (if known)
  • Provide the proposed day and time (bear in mind that this may not always be accommodated due to multiple therapists onsite for numerous children)
  • A goal in the student’s IEP must be part of this process – therefore can you provide a rationale as to why the use of the space – with the goal in mind and how this space will benefit the student and what strategies will be used to support the student to achieve this goal.

Zoe will then begin to collate all the requests and place them on to a roster and aim to get back to you with this over the next few weeks.

We foresee this space being able to provide an alternative space for support for our students and would love to see this used to meet the needs of our students.

Thank you for the support you provide to the students here. We look forward to hearing from you.
