Message from Principal Sarah

From Sarah Nightingale, Principal

It’s hard to believe we are now halfway through Term 1! It has been great to see how well students have settled into their learning. Classrooms have been busy and focused, with students building confidence, taking on new challenges and strengthening their routines. Thank you to our staff and families for the steady support you provide — it makes a real difference to the positive start we’ve had.

Upcoming Events

Over the coming weeks, there are several key events taking place.

Gala Days

Our Year 5 & 6 Gala Days kick off today – Wednesday 4th March. They’re a great chance for students to get involved, show teamwork and represent the school with pride.

School Photos

School Photo Day is scheduled for Friday 6th March. Individual and class photos will be taken at each campus. Please note, there are no sibling photos.

NAPLAN

Students in Years 3 and 5 will take part in NAPLAN from the 11th – 13th March. These assessments give us a snapshot of how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy. We encourage students to approach the tests calmly and simply try their best. Our focus remains on supporting every child’s ongoing learning and growth.

Professional Learning at NMPS

Behind the scenes, our staff continue to prioritise their own learning and professional growth. Staff generally meet twice each week, either before or after school, to take part in structured professional learning. This work is guided by our 2026 Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) and takes place through Professional Learning Teams (PLTs), Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and Communities of Practice (CoPs). Peer observations are an important part of our professional learning approach, with staff learning from one another through collaboration and shared practice.

Throughout the year, a number of staff will also participate in external professional learning, including opportunities offered by the Department of Education. At NMPS, we value ongoing development and recognise that investing in our teachers directly benefits our students. At times, this may mean your child’s teacher is replaced by a Casual Relief Teacher (CRT) or classes are split while staff engage in professional learning during the school day.

This week, our graduate teachers and our PLT Facilitators have attended professional learning sessions focusing on developing consistent predictable routines across the school.
