Reading
This week in Reading we have been learning all about the meanings of different suffixes and how they change the words they are added too. We have looked at -er, -ed -est -ing -ly -ness and -less. We have practised making different words by adding these suffixes to different base words. We have been learning about tenses and when and how to use different pronouns. We have been answering comprehension questions and enjoying our independent reading books.
Writing
In Writing we have been exploring different planning tools to help us organise our ideas and create engaging pieces for our audiences. For persuasive writing we have been using the TREE planner which helps us to expand our ideas and gives explanations for our points. For narrative writing we have been using the CSPACE planner which has ensured that we have all the important details for exciting and captivating stories. We have planned fractured fairytale narratives and explored the themes of environmental protection in our persuasives.
Maths
We continued to learn about decimal place value, with a focus on renaming. We played more partner games that allowed us to practice renaming decimals. We have been looking at different problem solving strategies and we have been practising careful reading of questions to ensure that we have answered exactly what the question is asking.
Congratulations.....
To all the Grade 5s who competed in District Swimming last Friday. Everyone swam their hardest, showed great support and encouragement to their fellow swimmers and did NMPS proud!
