Year 3

Students have completed  their Lunar New Year lion resist paintings. After planning and refining their lion designs, students used crayon resist techniques and watercolours to bring their lion dancers to life. Here are some of their wonderful finished pieces.

Year 5

Students have now finished their air-dry clay fortune cookies and taken them home. They carefully shaped their forms, then applied a smooth undercoat before decorating their pieces with Lunar New Year motifs. To complete their sculptures, they wrote and included a special fortune message inside, making each piece both meaningful and unique.

Year 6

Students have continued creating their batik-inspired Lunar New Year horses influenced by the work of artist Carol Law Conklin. Students began by drawing their horse designs before applying a thick layer of wax crayon over the surface. They then carefully scrunched their paper to create fine cracks across the drawing. Coloured ink was painted over the entire surface, seeping into the cracks to form intricate lines and patterns. After wiping the ink away with a towel and gently rinsing the paper with water, unique crackled effects were revealed. Students were surprised by the unpredictable results and thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with this  process. This week they will focus on sharing, reflecting on their work and process.

Art Club...

Art Club runs every Thursday during second play in the Art Room and is open to all students who are keen to extend their creativity. This fortnight, we were lucky to have special student-led activities focused on Chinese New Year and Ramadan. Students planned and guided small creative workshops, sharing cultural knowledge and leading themed art activities with their peers. It has been wonderful to see students take on leadership roles and celebrate important cultural events through art.
