Year 3

In grade 3 we have been learning all about the moon! Learning to take the important information and record as notes. We have also made our own flip books to show the lunar phases.

Reminder...

The blood red moon of a total lunar eclipse will glow like an ember on Tuesday night. As the Earth passes between the sun and the moon on March 3, the Earth will cast a shadow on the moon in a rare, hours-long sky show. That period when the moon is fully engulfed in the Earth’s red shadow (known as totality)will last one hour and be visible everywhere in Australia. In Melbourne, the penumbral eclipse begins at 7.44pm and the partial eclipse begins at 8.50pm. Totality on the east coast will last from 10.04pm to 11.04pm.

Year 4

The grade 4’s have been learning about different types of rock. This week we studied Sedimentary rocks. We experimented with making different layers of inorganic material from around the school to make sedimentary rocks. Did you know that the stripes on sedimentary rocks is caused by layering, which is the accumulation of different types of sediment over time?

Year 5

The grade 5 students have been continuing with their space probe projects. Students are now finishing up their sketches of their space probes and stating their scientific objectives. Students will then use maker's empire to make a 3D model of their space probe with the end goal of displaying their information and space probe at the end of the term!

Year 6

The grade 6’s have been creating a short presentation about sustainable resource management. They have been investigating how we can best manage renewable resources and what happens if they are not managed properly. We are looking forward to seeing their presentations next week in class.

Science at Home

The grade 4’s recently created a living soil profile. Here is a fun activity you could try at home, growing a grass head in a cup and making a new friend.
