Cartwheeling our way through class
As we near the middle of Term 1 we have been dusting off the gymnastics mats and keeping ourselves moving while the weather gets wild.
Preps, Year 1’s and 2’s
Down at Molesworth St our giant gym has been home to forward and backward rolls, crawling, jumping with motorbike landings and a side hustle of basketball bouncing (remember to use fingertips!) and balance equipment.
Over the last fortnight we have also worked on our interpersonal skills, cooperating with small teams to not only experiment with a range of movement and equipment, but also to work together to pack it up - something that all of us need practice with, I’m sure families will agree!
Year 3-6
Up at Errol St our senior kids have been going flippin’ mad.
With gymnastics as the flavour of the wet weeks, we have been crawling, rolling, jumping and hanging…and some of us have even been cartwheeling, handstand-walking and front flipping our way through class.
Bike Ed
We are still aiming to begin our Bike Ed unit in the next week or two, once this tropical wet weather (fingers crossed) turns into our more stable Autumn blue sky days.
As mentioned in our last PE Dept. Newsletter, while we do have our own fleet of bikes and helmets for all students to share, individuals are more than welcome to bring their own bikes and/or helmets along to use during our Bike Ed classes. Bikes can be parked in the regular student bike parking areas located outside the Art Room windows, in between the big library water tanks and the Flex building on the Harcourt St side of the school.
Keep an eye on the weather and be ready to pivot to indoor activities if the clouds look heavy.

Managing your Body Bubble
Here at school we have been looking at Gentle and Assertive ways to approach someone who is inside our body bubble. Some examples you can role play at home are;
Gentle options -
“I’m going to take a step back so we both have enough room.”
“Can you please scoot across a little bit.”
Some more Assertive options -
“My body belongs to me and I need more room.”
“Hey, you are popping my bubble;
Please give me space.”
