Junior School  Report

Jocelyn Gepp

It has been a busy and positive start to the term across the Junior School, with students engaging in a wide range of learning opportunities, wellbeing programs, and school events. It has been wonderful to see students continuing to build positive relationships, demonstrate school pride, and contribute to our school community in meaningful ways.

We began the term with our Junior and Middle School Assemblies, which helped set the tone for a successful term ahead. These assemblies provided an opportunity to revisit our expectations around learning, behaviour, attendance, and school pride, while also celebrating student success. A highlight of the assemblies was recognising students who achieved 100% attendance in Term 1, acknowledging their commitment and dedication to their learning. Congratulations to all students who received this recognition.

Throughout the term, students have had the opportunity to participate in a number of exciting events and programs. Our students represented the school proudly at the Kryal Castle Chess Tournament and Cross Country, demonstrating teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout both events.

Our Year 8 students participated in a valuable Wellbeing Session facilitated by Ballarat Community Health, focusing on strategies to support positive wellbeing and healthy relationships. In addition, our Year 9 students took part in the Flourish Girl, Mancave, and Rainbow wellbeing programs, which encouraged important conversations around identity, resilience, relationships, and personal growth. These programs were followed by a Cable Park excursion, providing students with an opportunity to strengthen peer connections and celebrate their participation in the program.

Another special event this term was the Mother’s and Motherly Figures Afternoon Tea for our Year 7 students, organised and run by our Year 12 VCE VM students. It was wonderful to see families welcomed into the school and to celebrate the important role that parents, carers, and significant adults play in supporting our students. A huge thank you to the Year 12 VCE VM students for the effort and care they put into making the afternoon such a success.

Across the Junior School, we have also continued to focus strongly on establishing and reinforcing positive routines. Staff and students have been working hard on consistent expectations around entry and exit routines, responding to the call to attention, and demonstrating pride in our school community through correct school uniform. These routines play an important role in creating calm, safe, and productive learning environments for all students. If families require any support regarding school uniform or student organisation, we encourage them to speak with their student’s Year Level Leader.

As we look ahead to the remainder of the term, there are still many exciting opportunities and events planned for our Junior School students. We remind students and families that participation in extracurricular activities and events is linked to students consistently demonstrating positive behaviour and meeting the expectations outlined in our Events Policy. This policy was discussed with families at the beginning of the year and has also been revisited during Year Level Assemblies. We appreciate the ongoing support from families in reinforcing these expectations and helping ensure that all students can continue to access the wonderful opportunities available throughout the year.

We look forward to another positive and successful few weeks ahead in the Junior School.
