Year 9 Report

Cameron Robinson

It has been a big few weeks for Year 9 students at Woodmans Hill Secondary College. On Thursday of Week 2, students participated in a wellbeing day. This day was facilitated by external presenters from: The Man Cave, Flourish Journey & Ballarat Community Health.

This day was a fantastic opportunity for students to discuss Mental Health & Wellbeing in a safe space. Through these evidence based run programs students have begun to foster resilience, increase their emotional literacy, strengthen their character and build meaningful relationships with their peers.

The following day, students ventured to Melbourne Cable Park. It was a perfect day. And it allowed students some down-time after being challenged emotionally during the wellbeing programs and gave them an opportunity to further connect with friends, peers and staff.

All students and staff attempted the Cable park course. The course was four stories high, and tested everyone's nerves. After a quick lunch, students then took on the Aqua obstacle course. Mr Giblin and Mr Nicholson had targets on their backs as they spent most of their afternoon pulling themselves out of the water!

Thanks to all staff and students who came along on the day.

From the students:

"They had nice employees and getting Gibbles into the water!" - Jai L.

"We loved the energy from Man Cave!" - Noah S. & Lex G.

"I loved hanging out with my friends." - Tahlia S.

On Monday of Week 5, Year 9 students completed their Morrisby Career Profiling. Students undertook a variety of quizzes and questionnaires which will then provide them with potential career opportunities and pathways.

Students will then be provided the opportunity to discuss and understand their results with a Morrisby-trained Careers Consultant.

Looking ahead to Week 10, as part of their Careers program, students will be participating in learning to use public transport in the local area. Students will catch public transport to ACU Ballarat to participate in various learning activities to reflect and develop the transferable employability skills that will be needed in the future workforce.
