Principal's Report
Shannon Ross
Last month I completed our 2025 Annual Report to the School Community. This document provides an opportunity to reflect on the work, achievements and growth of Woodmans Hill Secondary College throughout 2025. It highlights the many successes across learning, wellbeing and engagement, while also identifying the areas we know require continued focus as part of our improvement journey.
There were many positive outcomes across the year, particularly in Teaching and Learning. Staff continued to strengthen their practice through a strong focus on the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, with Professional Learning centred on explicit teaching, scaffolding and gradual release strategies in classrooms. This work was reflected in strong student learning growth, especially within NAPLAN, where our students achieved excellent relative growth results in both Reading and Numeracy from Year 7 to Year 9. Senior School outcomes also improved, with increases in VCE and VCE VM completion rates, alongside significant growth in English and General Mathematics study scores.
The report also highlights the many ways the College continued to support student wellbeing throughout the year. Our wellbeing, Disability Inclusion and Mental Health teams worked collaboratively to strengthen supports for students, while partnerships with organisations such as Berry Street, Headspace and the Y provided additional opportunities for students to engage in targeted wellbeing programs.
At the same time, the report acknowledges several important areas for continued growth. Student connectedness, perceptions of bullying management and overall attendance data remain challenges for the College and will continue to be key priorities moving forward. We know that students learn best when they feel connected, supported and engaged at school, and these areas will remain a strong focus within our strategic work in 2026 and beyond.
Overall, the Annual Report provides a balanced reflection of a year where there was much to celebrate, alongside a clear understanding of where we must continue to grow to ensure the best possible outcomes for all students.
I welcome all parents and community members to examine our Annual Report to Community, and this document can be found on our school webpage https://www.woodmanshill.net.au/policies-documents
