On Tuesday 5 May, our Senior Boys AFL team made their way to Knox Gardens Reserve to play in the Knox Division AFL championships and, due to having 40 signups, we decided it was only fair to bring two te

We began the day with Wantirna B vs Fairhills , defeating them Wantirna B 16.12.108 to Fairhills 8.7.55. A special mention to the players from Wantirna A side who filled in for Fairhills.

It was then time for the first ever Horner-Burleigh cup, Wantirna A (Horner) vs Wantirna B (Burleigh). With teams picked on the day via the old fashioned ‘captains pick’, we were excited to see who would take out the cup. With the National Anthem played pre-game, the Wantirna B boys were fired up and led at half time by 5 goals, thanks to some inaccurate goal kicking from Wantirna A. After a rev up speech at half time from Horner, the Wantirna A team dominated the second half, with an incredible 5 goal comeback to win Wantirna A 9.12.66 to Wantirna B 10.3.63, capping off a remarkable game played in fantastic spirits.

Congratulations to Wantirna A (Team Horner) on winning the Horner-Burleigh cup. We are looking forward to this becoming a tradition every year.

In the final game, it was Wantirna A’s time to play Fairhills, with our Wantirna B boys filling in for them. A high scoring game with very accurate goal kicking. The final score was Wantirna A 21.6.132 to Fairhills 15.4.94

Special thanks to Fairhills for getting a team together and allowing us to compete, it was great to have a day out playing the game we all love. Also a shout out to Royce in Year 11 for umpiring all 3 games, he did a superb job.

The boys will now head to the Region Championships on Thursday 16th July at Elgar Park after their victory. Congratulations Wantirna!
