Wantirna College is proud of the extensive extra-curricular opportunities we provide students as we know how important experiences beyond the classroom can be in enriching their lives and broadening their understanding of the world.
These extra-curricular programs rely on dedicated staff who go above and beyond to offer these experiences however, fundamental to their success is staff being able to trust students to do the right thing. It is a privilege for students to take part in these experiences and if students do not adhere to College expectations, their participation in these experiences may be compromised.
As per the Compass Event handbook for all excursions;
“Parents/carers will be notified if their child is in danger of losing the privilege to participate in an excursion or camp due to behaviour that does not meet the standards of behaviour set out in the school’s Student Engagement Policy, Student Behaviour Management Policy and Student Bullying Prevention Policy. The decision to exclude a student will be made by the Principal or Assistant Principal, in consultation with the Organising Teacher. Both the parent/carer and the student will be informed of this decision prior to the camp or excursion”
In these instances, the College reserves the right to decline students’ participation and in the case of events occurring during school hours, an alternative school-based program being substituted instead.
Last year, Victorian road safety laws regarding electric scooters (e-scooters) were updated, and these have direct implications for students and school procedures. Key Victorian Laws on E-Scooters, under current Victorian road rules stipulate:
A person must be at least 16 years old to legally ride an e-scooter on public roads or paths.
Riders under 16 are not permitted to ride e-scooters at all in public spaces.
Riders must wear an approved helmet, cannot ride on footpaths, and must follow all road safety rules (e.g., obey speed limits).
This age requirement aligns with broader safety efforts led by the Victorian Government and road safety bodies, including campaigns reminding the community that e-scooters are not a toy and are not safe for younger riders.
What does this mean for students at Wantirna College?
To align with Victorian law and to keep our students safe:
students are NOT permitted to ride e-scooters to school. Students are not permitted to bring e-scooters onto school grounds
they cannot be ridden to drop-off or pick-up areas, nor stored on school property.
This approach is consistent with Department of Education expectations for safe student travel, and with how schools across Victoria are updating local transport and safety policies. Our school community values active and safe travel.
We are delighted to congratulate the following people for being one of the five successful entrants in the draw to win a Westfield Voucher, after completing the Open Night Passport during our recent Open Night earlier this year:

Alex Andrew
Thank you to all families for attending the evening and for actively engaging with the various learning areas and activities on offer.
We hope the Open Night provided families with a valuable insight into our programs, facilities, and the welcoming environment we strive to create for all students and families.
