Year 7 students are building their skills in the kitchen, so far they have learnt how to be safe and hygienic, use a knife safely as well as describe the sensory properties of foods. Our Year 7’s have successfully made Salad Wraps, Ham and Cheese Pinwheels and now Pita Bread Pizza. Next our Year 7’s are going to be choosing ingredients they love to customise their own pizza. We are very excited to see what they come up with.

In Year 8 Food Studies our classes have been sharpening their cooking skills at the beginning of the term. Last week, the classes made Taco’s for the first time before they pick their own ingredients for their Taco Design Task.
The students were fantastic and made some delicious tacos. We can’t wait to see how creative they are for their custom tacos.

This term, Year 7 students have been learning about the ins and outs of computer hardware and software. Students have been involved in ‘building’ a computer from scratch, using paper components.
This has been a great opportunity to get hands on and learn more about the role of each computer component and how they work together across the devices we use each day. As students built their computer, bit by bit, they were introduced to the critical components that make our devices function, from the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and hard drives (both mechanical and solid-state).

It’s been great to see high levels of engagement across each class with students taking ownership over their devices through adding custom designs and features.
Students will complete a summative assessment in coming weeks before moving onto wires, cables and wi-fi as part of our next unit of work looking at how this thing called ’The internet’ magically works.
We look forward to helping our Year 7’s develop their digital literacy and understand how the ever evolving digital world works.

Designed Solutions has been busy with using jigsaws to cut out the custom tool box handles students designed, then measuring & marking, drilling holes and using guide nails to ensure that when we screw the toolbox panels together, they line up beautifully and I am proud to say every student was spot on with their work!
Next, we measured & marked then learnt how to correctly and safely chisel out a housing joint of plywood.

Now we have completed the measuring & marking, sawing and chiselling softwood for our compartment box to sit inside our toolbox.
It is fantastic to see the huge amounts of prude students take in their work and the courage to try new tools and timbers.
Well done Designed Solutions!
