Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Friends of DPS,
What a fantastic start we have had to the school year! It has been wonderful to see our students return with such positive energy, enthusiasm and readiness to learn. Classrooms have quickly settled into productive routines, and our students are already demonstrating our school values through their approach to learning.
Teachers have been focused on establishing high expectations and clear learning goals across all year levels. Students are engaging deeply with their learning, building strong foundations that will support them throughout the year. I would like to thank families for ensuring students are arriving at school ready to learn each day; your support makes a significant difference.
Students in Years 3 and 5 are beginning their preparation for NAPLAN, which will take place later this term. Our approach focuses on building confidence and familiarity with the test format while continuing to prioritise high-quality teaching and learning in literacy and numeracy. NAPLAN is just one measure of student progress, and we encourage students to simply do their best.
We appreciate families supporting their children by maintaining regular attendance, encouraging positive conversations about the assessments, and ensuring students are well rested during the testing period. A huge thanks to our Level 3 and Level 5 teachers for supporting student with NAPLAN prepartions.
Last week we held our first whole school assembly for the year. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community, celebrate student achievements, and reinforce our shared values and expectations. Seeing students confidently participate and celebrate one another’s success was a highlight. We look forward to many more opportunities to gather and recognise excellence throughout the year. On Wednesday 25 February, two of our Captains, Anna and Caleb, represented the school at the Inner East Principal Forum where they had the opportunity to Acknowledge Country in front of more than 200 Principals and Assistant Principals from our region.. We will hear from Anna and Caleb at an upcoming Assembly about their experience.
I am pleased to announce the formation of our 2026 School Council. I would like to sincerely thank the parents and staff who have volunteered their time to serve our school community. The School Council plays an important role in shaping the strategic direction of the school, supporting governance, and strengthening partnerships between school and home. Thank you to the following members of the school community who make up the DPS School Council:
School Staff: Jarod Ryan, Julia Bay, Natalie Pike and Niky Corfios
Parent Members: Deepak G, Fia M, Jim F, Neville B, Stephanie H, Krystle D, Molly Z and Lisa Z.
Our staff have also had a strong start to the year, engaging in targeted professional learning focused on evidence-based teaching practices and improving student outcomes. Ongoing professional development ensures that we continue to refine our practice, respond to student needs, and provide the highest quality education for every child. Staff are utilising professional learning opportunities offered through the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. This includes Miss Su, Miss White, Miss El-bay and Mr O'Bryan who have all been accepted in to the Teacher Excellence Program in 2026.
Thank you for your continued support in what has already been a very positive and productive start to the school year. I look forward to working together to make 2026 a successful and rewarding year for all members of our school community.
Determination Pride Success
Jarod Ryan
