Celebrating the Chinese Spring Festival 🧧 (Lunar New Year) 庆祝中国春节 (农历新年) 🐴

This term, students across Prep to Year 6 are embracing the joy and cultural richness of the Chinese Spring Festival, also known as Lunar New Year. As we welcome the Year of the Horse (马年), each year level is engaging in meaningful and festive learning experiences that highlight traditions, creativity, and inquiry.

Our Prep and Year 1 students are exploring the festival through a fun Year of the Horse colouring sheet and singing the 'Happy New Year' song (新年好), helping them connect with symbols of good fortune. Year 2 learners are developing their writing skills with a 2026 Year of the Horse themed writing sheet, expressing their understanding of the festival.

Students in Year 3 and 4 are deepening their cultural awareness through the guided reading book 'Lunar New Year', learning about the traditional customs, family celebrations, and the significance of the Lunar New Year. Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 learners are investigating the 15-day celebration timeline, exploring how each day carries a unique cultural meaning.

As we celebrated the Lunar New Year with our whole school community, Mrs Keen incorporated the theme ’马‘ into an amazing art display with her Year 6 students to mark the Year of the Horse. Whereas Ms Misso asked her Year 1 learners to design an authentic pattern on a red horse as a class display. We also had a special performance of the Chinese Lion Dance held at our face-to-face assembly to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

I look forward to sharing this vibrant celebration with our school community as we welcome a new year filled with energy, kindness and prosperity.
