Sport: Senior Boys Football
Playing with Pride
Our Senior Boys took to the field Thursday in the School Sport Victoria Upper Hume carnival at the Barr Reserve.
Coached by Vice Principal and 2009 Barton Medalist (TDFL League B&F) John Paola, the boys were good sports and played with school pride against very strong opposition.
Captain Jack Ford was awarded his 2nd Steve Johnson Player of the Day, on the 30th Anniversary of our 1996 Year 7 State Title at Windy Hill - the 1st of 3 titles Stevie would lead us to in 4 years before becoming an AFL and Geelong Cats legend (he kicked 6 that day in the State Final).
The Rovers U18 defender (recently named to the O&M Interleague Squad alongside fellow Year 12 and Vice Captain Oscar Benson) also won in 2024 in Year 10.
Moyhu Seniors midfielder Lachie Pensak was brilliant in the centre, Cooper Young strong in the ruck, Dylan McCombe inspiring with tackling pressure, Benson classy, and Levi Zachariou (featured recently singing at our Talent Quest Auditions, and the Johnson Award winner in our Year 8 team of 2022) a natural defender and leader.
BEST PLAYERS - Jack Ford, Lachie Pensak, Dylan McCombe, Cooper Young, Oscar Benson, Levi Zachariou.
GOAL KICKERS - Jack Ford, Freddie Lowe.
Thanks to all players, coaches, umpires, organisers, opponents and photographer Kev McGennan.
Special thanks to the Year 12 boys who have pulled on our treasured jumper for the last time, after 6 years of great service to their school.
If you missed it, see our post on our Senior Girls team’s solid Upper Hume Runner-Up display.
