7E "Life in Water"
Science Project
We are excited to announce the launch of our latest Science unit: the "Life in Water" Project. This immersive, four-week hands-on study allows our 7E SEAL students to step into the roles of marine biologists and environmental chemists.
Over the next month, students will take full responsibility for a classroom fish. This project is designed to move beyond the textbook, requiring students to apply complex scientific theory to a living, breathing ecosystem.
Students will be working across several scientific disciplines to ensure their aquatic habitats thrive:
Ecological Science: Students will study the tank as a micro-ecosystem, exploring how biotic and abiotic factors interact to sustain life. They will learn about nutrient cycling and the delicate balance of energy flow.
Water Chemistry: Weekly monitoring and data tracking of pH, nitrate, and ammonia levels to maintain a healthy environment.
Systems & Cycles: Investigating the vital relationship between Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration within the tank’s plants and inhabitants.
Biological Science: Applying principles of Classification, Anatomy, and Adaptations to identify and understand their specific fish species.
This week, students have set up their tanks and met their new "lab partners"!
