Year 10 Work Experience

At Wangaratta High School, we intentionally align National Careers Week with our Year 10 Work Experience program and Year 9 Morrisby Career Profiling

This strategic timing creates a powerful environment for students to dive into their interests and experience the reality of full-time work firsthand. Whether it’s 'trialling' a dream job in the workplace or uncovering hidden strengths through profiling, this is the perfect time to start talking to your student/s about their future. It’s all about dreaming big, setting goals, and figuring out exactly where your pathway leads after graduation!

Every May, National Careers Week is your one-stop shop for exploring career education, information, and guidance. It connects you with fantastic resources and events to help you achieve your dream job.

The week aims to celebrate careers, career development, career development services, and career development practitioners and promote career development’s economic, social and personal benefits.

Career development is a process of managing learning, work and leisure to progress through life. It includes gaining and using the skills and knowledge needed to plan and make informed decisions about education, training, and work. Everyday decisions and priorities affect career development. Ultimately, career development is about much more than jobs – it is about how to live your life.

The objectives of National Careers Week are to:

  • Develop community awareness of the concept, benefit, and value of career development.
  • Raise aspirations, challenge stereotypes, and broaden horizons about careers.
  • Highlight the need for ongoing reskilling and upskilling to support careers throughout life.
  • Identify the changing nature of work and its impact on all Australians.
  • Showcase industries and the career opportunities available in them.
  • Provide opportunities to partner with key stakeholders.

The success of our Work Experience program rests entirely on the generosity of our local and surrounding business community. We are incredibly grateful to the employers who open their doors, mentor our students, and provide invaluable insight into their industries. To every business that supports our students' journeys: thank you. Your investment in their future makes all the difference.

Wangaratta High School thanks each and every one of you for your commitment to our students. For more information on our Work Experience or School-Based Apprenticeship programs, please reach out to the school office.
