What's on in our Science classrooms! 

The Year 12 BioLab Excursion 

On the 24th of March the Year 12 Biology class ventured out early to BioLab – a bioscience specialising lab that is government funded, which runs out of Belmont High School in Geelong. 

The students participated in a series of experiments centred around cutting out the human growth hormone genes and inserting these into bacteria. Students then used antibiotics and a green fluorescent protein to test their success in inserting their gene of interest. The students enjoyed putting into practice the theory they had been learning at school and see a real life application of bacterial recombination and transformation. This learning leads into their first School Assessed Coursework (SAC) task coming up next week to round out their jam packed term!
