Year 12 Report

Claire Blower

As we move through Term 1, it’s been fantastic to see our Year 12 cohort showing great energy, resilience and leadership, even when things have gotten tricky and busy!

Our first wellbeing events of the year were timely as assessments are ramping up – the “What I Wanted to Be When I Was Little” dress-up day and “One Last PE Lesson” – were both a huge success! It was wonderful to see students embracing the fun and silliness of these events, taking a moment to enjoy themselves, connect with one another, and build positive memories in their final year. We had dress ups of all kinds from vets, princesses to the President of the United States, and it was great to see the students reliving primary school PE days with the rainbow parachute and ensuring that Miss B was consistently on the sidelines in a massive game of dodgeball. The laughter and participation from everyone across both days was a reminder of the strong community we’re building together in Year 12. Shout out to best dressed on our dress up day – Alec Humphrey as Grimace was hard to miss and to the group of Mr Barbara’s, you will go down in HISTORY (get it?). It was awesome to see students giving 100% in our last PE lesson as well – Piper Kennedy, David Nube and Chloe Goodrick deserve a shout out for their efforts on the day.

As we look ahead to the final two weeks of term, we encourage all students to keep focused on their studies and to maintain consistent study habits, especially as SACs continue to roll out. Planning ahead, managing time effectively, and balancing work with rest are key skills to refine now to ensure you can maintain success throughout the year.

We have one more wellbeing excursion to go on Tuesday of Week 10 to the Ballarat Wild Life Park and this will be a good chance to have some down time and hang out with friends – remember to get your notes in or conveniently, consent and pay online now!

A huge congratulations also goes to all the Year 12 students who represented our College so proudly at the recent Information Night. Your presence, positivity and maturity did not go unnoticed. In particular, I’d like to recognise our School Captains, whose speeches were a perfect reflection of the spirit of our school. James, Wilby and Adele, your efforts to balance School Captain commitments, school work and all of the other awesome things you each do is a testament to each of you! You are role models for our cohort and the rest of the school. Keep it up!

It was also awesome to have representation from Wilby and Adele at the Respectful Relationships forum in which primary and secondary schools across Ballarat come together to keep the conversation going about how young people can be proactive about Respect and Gendered Violence in the Ballarat Community.

Both Wilby and Adele adopted leadership roles, working with Grade 6 students to facilitate discussions about respect, being an active bystander and safe people to seek help from. We may see some artwork from Adele and Wilby on the new Respectful Relationships Posters that will be rolled out this year which is very exciting!

Let’s keep the momentum going as we move toward a well-earned break. I hope you all are off somewhere nice, or at least have sleep ins, chocolate and catch ups with friends and family planned for the holidays. I can’t believe Term 1 is almost over – it truly shows how quick Year 12 will fly by! Keep up the hard work Year 12’s! 😊
