Pathways & Careers Report

Over the past three weeks, the pathways team has been busy organising excursions, meeting with Year 12 students, and initiating discussions about work experience for Year 10 students. We also have Morrisby testing coming up for our year 9 students in week 4 of term 2.
The first major excursion for careers and pathways was to Melbourne for the Victorian Careers and Employment Expo. Thirty-nine Year 10 students attended to explore a wide range of educational institutions, course providers, and employers. They had opportunities to participate in free seminars, receive career advice, and engage in the Try a Skill Interactive Zones. It was fantastic to see Woodmans Hill Secondary College students taking control of their futures by gathering valuable information about their potential pathways after school. Some highlights of the day included students having the chance to see the inside of an ambulance and being strapped onto an ambulance trolley, while others used VR headsets to operate Black Hawk helicopters and fighter jets with the Australian Defence Force.
Kara has been meeting with Year 12 students to ensure they are prepared for life after school, helping them develop not only Plan A but also Plans B, C, and D. She has been working with these students to create a career action plan, which will assist them in articulating their goals and the steps necessary to achieve them.
During Term 2, our Year 9 students will participate in Morrisby profiling. The Morrisby Profile is designed to help your child identify their true career direction through a scientific assessment of their abilities, personality, interests, and motivations. This process enables them to discover their unique characteristics, which is essential for making informed choices regarding their options at ages 16 and 18.
Once your child completes the Morrisby Profile, they will gain valuable insights into their strengths, abilities, preferences, motivations, and personality types. This information can assist them in making important decisions, such as which subjects to take or what their next steps should be based on their preferences. Additionally, the profile provides career suggestions tailored to their strengths and abilities, along with guidance on the pathways to those careers and relevant recommendations.
So be on the lookout for more information about Morrisby coming home with year 9's.
As work experience approaches in Term 2, Year 10 students have been visiting the pathways office for assistance with contacting businesses and discussing potential pathways for their work experience. This experience is an excellent way to discover a job or career that students enjoy, or even identify roles they may not like, which is an important part of choosing a post-school pathway. If you have any questions about work experience or anything pathways, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us in the pathways office.
