Anglicare Ambassadors

Beds of cardboard at Optus

Earlier this month eight of our incredible Year 10 Anglicare Ambassadors took part in the 10th annual Anglicare WA School Sleep Out at Optus Stadium. This unique event aims to raise awareness and vital funds to address youth homelessness across Western Australia.

Funds raised go directly to Street Connect, a program that supports young people aged 15–25 who are sleeping rough, helping them get their lives back on track. Street Connect relies entirely on donations, making every contribution so important.

We are proud to announce that our school not only met but exceeded our fundraising goal, raising over $4,200! Together, all participating schools raised an extraordinary $209,000. A special shout out goes to Ruben Bushell, who individually raised an impressive $775 for the cause – an incredible personal effort!

The night itself was a humbling and eye-opening experience. Students slept on cardboard boxes, enjoyed a light soup for dinner, and endured the cold, flickering lights, car alarms, and barking dogs – all designed to reflect some of the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to our two staff members, Mr Ryan McBride and Mr Adam Edwards, who volunteered their Friday night to support our students and brave the conditions alongside them. Your presence and encouragement meant the world.

This experience not only raised important funds but also opened our eyes and hearts to the struggles faced by young people without a safe place to call home. It’s an event we highly recommend to anyone looking to make a difference.
