Cowan House

There is something powerful about being part of the beginning. And beginnings like this don’t come around often.

The creation of a new House is incredibly rare. For many students, it is something they will never experience in their time at school. But for us, right now, it is happening.

Cowan House is being built from the ground up and you have the chance to help shape it. But before you consider joining, you should know what we stand for.

Cowan House is named after Edith Cowan, the first woman elected to an Australian parliament. She believed in education as a key to progress and spent her life advocating for social reform, equal opportunity, and the rights of those without a voice. Her impact was lasting, and her name now represents the values we hope to uphold. Just like Edith Cowan, we aim to be brave in voice, strong in values, and driven by purpose. If this sounds like you, we would be proud to have you join us.

Gandhi House

Let’s start with a huge congratulations to Gandhi House on our outstanding victory at the Interhouse Athletics Carnival. The level of participation was fantastic and it was inspiring to see such strong House spirit shining through on the day. A big thank you to every student who got involved, and an extra round of applause for our Gandhi award winners, both our champion athletes and those recognised for their sportsmanship.

I would also like to acknowledge the exceptional leadership of our House Captain, Rory Bingham, and House Prefect, Mackenzie Marshall. Rory and Mackenzie have worked tirelessly to foster a positive and supportive culture within Gandhi House this year, and their efforts were evident throughout the carnival. Gandhi is not only fiercely competitive but also celebrates the small wins, whether it is a student trying a new event, stepping outside their comfort zone, or simply giving their best effort. All these things add up to a positive House Spirit that you can feel within our PCGs and especially at our carnivals. Thank you, Rory and Mackenzie, for your energy, dedication, and encouragement in this space. Your leadership continues to strengthen our House as we look ahead to the excitement of Battle of the Bands and the newly created House Choir.

This year’s Battle of the Bands and House Choir are shaping up to be amazing, with so many students stepping up to get involved. I have no doubt their performances will light up the stage and wow the crowd. I encourage you to purchase your tickets early so that you don’t miss out.

Keep up the incredible work, Gandhi! Every House point counts as we move toward the end of the year, so keep collecting tokens, keep dropping them into the House Token Jars at both 441 Murray Street and 50 William Street and get involved in House Week when it arrives, and continue to Find Your Brave.

Lincoln House

It always fills me with pride to see our Lincoln students participating and cheering each other on at the Interhouse Athletics Carnival. While we didn’t take the trophy this year, I would like to note that we had a record high participation number from our Lincoln students which definitely contributed to securing second place. House Spirit was on full display, with students cheering each other on as they raced through the track and participated in multiple events.

I would like to congratulate all Lincoln House athletes for their achievements on the day.

House Week this term saw the students compete in an Amazing Race and I Spy quiz in PAWS as well as a Table Tennis and Mario Kart competition at lunch. At the end of the week with all competitions completed, the results could not be closer with each House taking enough wins to leave House Week Term 3 in a three-way tie! How amazing was that and how close will the House Cup be by the end of Term Four!

As the competition for the House Cup draws towards its conclusion there are very few big events left to score those important House points. Our Battle of the Bands and House Choir teams are hard at work practising for the event held Thursday next week. As the current two-time champion and with the competition as close as it is, we are doing everything we can to ensure that the trophy remains in Lincoln.

The event will be held in-house at 441 Murray St this year. Places are going fast, so make sure to reserve your spots and sing along in support of our House bands! It is going to be amazing!

Mandela House

I would like to take a moment to thank every Mandela student who took part in the Interhouse Athletics Carnival. Whether you competed in one event or many, your efforts made a real difference. While the overall result may not have gone our way, it was fantastic to see so many of you giving your best and proudly showing Mandela spirit throughout the day.

I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding leadership of our House Captain, Zuri Hawkins, and House Prefect, Amelie McKeon. Both students embody what it means to be part of Mandela, giving their all, supporting their peers, and bringing pride to every competition. Their leadership extends well beyond organising and cheering; they have helped foster a culture where students feel encouraged to get involved, enjoy themselves, and celebrate one another’s achievements. Thank you, Zuri and Amelie, for the enthusiasm and positivity you continue to bring to Mandela House. It is also encouraging to see our next group of leaders already showing these same qualities, ensuring Mandela is in safe hands for the future.

Looking ahead, it is exciting to see so many students already preparing for Battle of the Bands and House Choir. These events promise to showcase not only our incredible creativity and talent but also the teamwork and energy that make Mandela such a spirited House. With the House Cup so close this year let’s get behind the Mandela Team to ensure their success.

Finally, a reminder that the Mandela Charity Talent Show will be held at the end of this term. We would love to see individuals or groups put their hands up to perform, whether that be singing, dancing, or sharing a unique skill. If you are interested, please come and see me in my office or send me a direct message on SEQTA for more information.
