Today more than 400 families saw for themselves all that a St George’s Anglican Grammar School education can offer their children by enjoying our Open Day activities and tours of 441 Murray Street.
The positive energy was indeed contagious, and our Year 11 student tour guides (pictured below) were just outstanding ambassadors of the school. Thank you to everyone that made this day such a huge success. It was an extremely busy but brilliant event with lots of interested families for the future.
Camp Year 10s returned with much excitement from their Year 10 Waroona Camp adventures. Despite some wet and wintry weather they were full of smiles as they arrived back on campus on Wednesday afternoon. The many benefits of school camps offer so much more to students that go far beyond the classroom. The different life skills and character growth that thrive as part of an outdoor camp experience are magical. Students often gain personal growth from ‘finding their brave’ and stepping outside of their comfort zone by challenging themselves to try new things, even if it scares them. In doing so, they build resilience, confidence and self-esteem. They are involved in activities that require them to cooperate and collaborate with others, they need to work as a team and in doing so develop a wide range of important social and interpersonal skills both inside and outside of their immediate friendship groups. Indeed, many new friendships grow from a wholesome camp experience.
Students also can be at one with nature – something that does not always happen in the hustle and bustle of city life and we hope that this creates in them a sense of environmental stewardship. The Year 10s have undertaken activities to stretch them both physically, emotionally and intellectually. Getting physical outside is such a positive for their mental health and promotes physical fitness and health. A camp without mobile phones helps them see the benefits of time away from technology, a chance to disconnect and be involved in quiz nights and the type of social connections that we all enjoyed as children. School camps are equally often remembered by students long after they leave school.
My hope is that this year the Year 10s created fond memories of their time away together and have fostered a deeper sense of camaraderie and connectedness between them all as a year group. My huge and heartfelt thanks to the staff that made this happen as for me school camps are such an important, valuable and crucial part of the landscape of an Australian education.
Science Week this week has seen the students enjoying a range of diverse activities happening in our amazing new Science Laboratories at 441 Murray Street. The 2025 school theme ‘Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language’ came to life with our secret garden bed including a range of model flowers created by the students on Level 4, karaoke and mindfulness in PAWS and an escape room created by Mr Lim. It has been a fun week and one that I hope has inspired the budding scientists among us.
Warmest Wishes for the weekend ahead,
