It’s time to take a breath

Hi everyone!

Can you believe we are already here? Term Two has been big, bold and full of energy and I am so proud of every single student who has shown up and given it their all. As we head into the break, I hope you can give yourself permission to slow down, rest, and recharge.

Did you know that slow, intentional breathing is one of the most powerful tools we have for regulating our nervous system? When we are stressed, our breathing tends to become fast and shallow, which keeps us stuck in fight-or-flight mode. The good news is that we can actually use our breath to switch that off.

One technique worth trying these holidays is box breathing -- breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 4, breathe out for 4, hold for 4, and repeat a few times. Simple, free, and you can do it anywhere. If you want to give it a go with some guidance, Headspace has a great short video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7uQXDkxEtM

Introducing Emily

I am also thrilled to introduce a familiar face who will be joining our counselling team in a more official capacity next term. Emily is a registered counsellor who has been working alongside me this term, and from Term Three she will be seeing students on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I have loved having her here and know she will be a wonderful support for our community.

Over to Emily to introduce herself!

Hi everyone. I am so excited to officially be part of the St George’s community next term.
I am a registered counsellor with a real passion for supporting young people with their wellbeing. One of the things I love most about this work is creating a space where you can show up exactly as you are, say what is on your mind, and feel genuinely heard.
When I am not at school, you will probably find me at the beach, baking something sweet, hanging out with my cat Lilly, or catching up with friends over a good coffee.

I cannot wait to keep getting to know you all. From next term, I will be available for counselling support on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and I look forward to working alongside Ms Coldrey throughout Term Three.
