The Laurence Library has been enjoying a little World Cup spirit. Curated by Miss Sarah Ramm, our current display features a selection of books about soccer – or football, if you prefer! – from player biographies and sporting histories through to stories where the beautiful game takes centre stage. Over the final two weeks of term, students have also been stopping by during lunchtime to watch highlight reels from recent World Cup games, making for a lively finish to the semester.
Our LEGO Club has reached another exciting milestone, with students completing their build of Barad-dûr from The Lord of the Rings. It has been fantastic to see the project slowly take shape across the semester, with plenty of careful planning, problem-solving and patience involved in bringing the Dark Tower to life.
There is already plenty for LEGO Club to look forward to in Semester Two. Students will be recreating three iconic artworks in LEGO form: Hokusai’s The Great Wave, Van Gogh’s Starry Night, and Monet’s Bridge over a Pond. It will be interesting to see how each painting is interpreted through bricks, particularly as the group works with these well-known pieces in a very different medium.

We also have Book Week to look forward to in Term Three, which is always a highlight on the calendar for both the English Department and The Laurence Library. We hope you managed to find time to borrow a book to enjoy over the holidays!
