Foundation: Foundation and Year 6 Buddy Program

At ICOM, we are committed to providing meaningful opportunities that support student wellbeing, leadership development, and positive relationships across our school community. This year, we are excited to introduce a new initiative-the
Foundation and Year 6 Buddy Program.
The program has been designed to create purposeful connections between our youngest and oldest primary students through structured fortnightly wellbeing sessions. These sessions provide opportunities for students to engage in activities that promote communication, emotional awareness, empathy, and positive social interactions.
Our Year 6 students have embraced their roles as buddies with enthusiasm and maturity. Through supporting their Foundation buddies, they are developing valuable leadership skills, learning to model respectful behaviour, demonstrate responsibility, and build confidence in their ability to guide and support others.
For our Foundation students, the program provides a welcoming and supportive environment where they can build confidence, develop social skills, and strengthen their sense of belonging within the College community. With the support of their Year 6 buddies, they are learning how to express emotions appropriately, communicate respectfully, and form positive relationships with others.
The Buddy Program is already making a positive impact by strengthening connections between year levels and fostering a culture of care, inclusion,
and leadership throughout the school.
We are proud of the way our students have engaged with this initiative and look forward to watching these relationships continue to grow and flourish throughout the year, insha'Allah.
