Secondary: VCAA Public Speaking Competition

On Tuesday (19/05), students from the Islamic College of Melbourne participated in the PESA (Plain English Speaking Award) competition organised by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).

PESA is a prestigious statewide public speaking competition for students aged 15–18.

 Competitors are required to deliver:

  • A 6-minute prepared speech on a topic of their choice

  • A 3-minute impromptu speech after only 4 minutes of preparation time

ICOM was proudly represented by:

  • Nada Mumtaz Khan

  • Rida Maheen Khan

The event brought together talented and experienced public speakers from across Victoria, providing students with an excellent opportunity to further develop their confidence, communication, and critical thinking skills. Both students represented the College exceptionally well, delivering thoughtful and engaging speeches throughout the competition. We are especially proud to share that Rida Maheen Khan won the heat and has progressed to the PESA semi-finals.

Congratulations to both students on their outstanding efforts and for representing

ICOM with professionalism and excellence.
